No idea if Navy Fed is being a good guy here or what, but when I worked as a rep for BofA, the standard was the first time you over drafted, you could get the fees refunded so long as you asked for them to be refunded (and I hated it because they loving wouldn't let us do it *unless* someone specifically asked us to). Even if the first person says no, ask to speak with a supervisor. Banks suck but so long as you're not continuously over-drafting your account, they can and will often refund them.

Overdraft fees are loving bullshit to begin with. I always hated the lame rear end excuse they made us give as to why they were a thing to begin with.

Wife works for Navy Fed and they've always been pretty good to her. They bumped up everyone's pay 15 bucks an hour to keep coming in during the Pandemic and setup the branches to keep a minimum number of members coming in at once and those that are there stay separated by six feet.

Yard period means it takes a while for the ship to be ready to go, and a steamship take days to get going once it's ready to go.

Days. There's a reason nobody outside the US uses steam anymore.

Again, I understand this. All I'm saying is that I'm surprised the order to start getting Comfort ready to go wasn't in motion earlier. I guess the confusion is coming from my post about it "waiting" for Trump (which I agree in that case, if they just got the order to sortie yesterday, it makes no difference). That's it. I don't think it's "push button. go. bing bang boom, so simple."

It's not that bad. Depending on the ship, figure 24-72 hours. It's more the putting everything back together again for an unexpected activation from the yard.

Reacticating an AKR fresh off activation took us about 100 hours from the order. Have to crew it up, get stores, bunkers, sludge, put all the machinery back together, etc. The medical staff also has to get activated and put on board or whatever the Navy does. One of my classmates married a Navy doctor and just posted pictures of her getting recalled yesterday.

Edit: As to why, I'm not 100% those ships are the best fit for the mission but Trump was moving slow anyways. I only have friends that work on them and know nothing about their utilization. They activated them pretty quickly after CA went into SIP though. The East Coast is getting hit pretty hard at the moment but I dont think they are turning people away yet?

So this might still be racist and Trumpy and horrible but it's not what it looks like on the box.

No one is losing land, this reservation was established on land already privately owned by the tribe under a cloud of corruption accusations and shady deals made by Abramoff associates who took over tribal leadership and exiled elders who wanted the corruption investigated. The reservation status was established in 2015 for the purposes of building a casino.

It's the Trump admin so it's still probably terrible for some reason, but there's a lot of shady poo poo that went down regarding this reservation being established so this one isn't so simple.

Propulsion modes are steam, gas turbine, and diesel engines (slow/medium speed). Fuel type is a different thing, theres different types of oil (heavy, #2 diesel, gasoline), natural gas, and coal.

Ships go the shipyard for all the stuff that cant be done at sea. Generally large machinery overhauls/upgrades (the turbine was probably apart and being inspected), painting, steel replacement (cut out and replace rusted decks), electronics, whatever they can fit in.

Edit: Also, MARAD ships cant move until everything goes through the channels. We knew we would have to activate but had to wait 24 hours for things to go through. Once big dick DoD money comes through we have all the resources in the world but until the very minute that happens, nothing moves cause theres no resources.

From what I understand, they're not going to take corona patients, they're going to take other emergency cases that would otherwise be SOL once the hospitals fill up.

Yeah, that's also the purpose of a lot of the field hospitals and convention center takeovers. A lot of hotel rooms can potentially be converted to negative-pressure, self-contained chambers, but the big locations really can't.

If/When the hospitals get completely overtaken by COVID, a lot of unrelated patients die from their simple heart attacks and strokes just because there's nobody to see them and nowhere to put them. Give Florida a month or two as they're trying to cordon themselves off from New York as the virus has been long-since spreading all around the retirement communities.

we can magic up facilities pretty easily, but not the people and equipment. a worst case scenario is we're just congregating a bunch of people together so they can die in a convention center.

sorry for posting more politics but some friends of mine are doing a thing

San Francisco is under a necessary shelter-in-place along alongside strong social distancing recommendations from the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

But our unhoused neighbors living in congregate settings like shelters, Navigation Centers and encampments can't stay home and effectively socially distance.  If we don't allow all of our residents to socially distance,  it's not just  a risk to the unhoused, but it's also a risk to housed people and our health care hospital systems.

With thousands of vacant hotel rooms and apartment units, we are pushing for the City to take this on and ramp up acquisition of thousands of units to house those who are unsheltered.

Supervisor Dean Preston has secured hotel rooms in District 5 for homeless families and women at Providence Foundation's D5 emergency shelters.  The effort starts with seniors and people with underlying health issues that put them in vulnerable categories.

By housing shelter residents in hotel rooms, this project will both help those residents and thin the remaining population at these two shelters to allow expanded social distancing. It will be

Currently DPH is securing rooms for those who are COVID-postive, and for necessary and emergency workers, but unhoused neighbors in congregate settings are largely ignored.

Every minute matters. We cannot wait until City Agencies expand efforts to get hotel rooms and launch a robust voucher program, so we are acting now to house those in need. Please donate what you can today!
