(MOSTLY TRUE) HISTORY October 9, 1905: President Theodore Roosevelt finds himself in a crisis. He has summoned the coaches of the three most prominent football programs (Yale, Princeton, and Harvard) to the White House to hold a summit. The simple task is this: How to fix football? Over the previous 5 years, 45 players have died on the field from injuries sustained from the game. News stories from around the country decry the excessive violence of the game. The Chicago Tribune called it “A Death Harvest”. The Beaumont Express described football as: “A contest that, for brutality, is little better than the gladiatorial combats in the arena of ancient Rome”. Even Charles Eliot, the President of Harvard and one of the men present at the Football Summit, talks about the game as: “Football is to academics as bullfighting is to agriculture”, and “more brutalizing that prizefighting, cockfighting, or bullfighting”. The Football Summit showed some promise. President Roosevelt advanced an agenda to “set an example of fair play” for football teams across the country. The men parted ways with a burgeoning intent to change the rules and the face of football. Intentions that were not followed. A few weeks after the meeting, Roosevelt’s own son was brutalized playing for Harvard. In a game against Yale, his nose was broken and required surgery to repair. After the game, Charles Eliot remarked that he would not field his team against Yale again. Incidents continued to mount. Then November 25th happened. On November 25th, 1905, 3 different football players, playing in 3 different places, and 3 separate matches, were killed. 1.) Union college halfback Harold Moore attempts to “buck the line”. He was kicked in the head by a New York University player. He was knocked unconscious. Moore died 6 hours later from a cerebral hemorrhage 2.) Robert Brown was running the football when he was “thrown heavily upon the ground, alighting on his neck and shoulders”. He was immediately paralyzed, and died without regaining consciousness. 3.) Carl Osborne of Marshall High School was involved in a defensive play. During the play, his ribs were broken—one of the broken fragments pierced his heart. He died instantly. Pressure was mounting to abolish football. By the end of the season, Duke, Northwestern and Columbia had dissolved their football programs. Stanford and California decided to play rugby instead. Charles Eliot was leading the push to abandon the game. Even internal forces were at play here—Roosevelt’s vice president, William Howard Taft, threaten to personally dismiss any military personnel involved in football. By December, after 3 more deaths, one of which was a 13-year-old, Roosevelt has seen enough. On December 11, 1905, Roosevelt issued Executive Order 326, bringing an immediate stop to any and all football programs across the country. Any schools keeping a football team would immediately forfeit any federal funds. Faced with significant budget shortfalls and community pressure, the response was swift—football was no more in the United States. Even the organization of what would eventually become the NCAA in 1906 couldn’t sway Roosevelt to reconsider. …but football finds a way… April 4, 2013. The NCAA has spent the last 5 years examining the problem of football. A plethora of rules, protective equipment, and scientific study have created a game almost completely divorced from what came before it. All of these efforts were brought forward to the United States Congress, with the hope that they will pass a resolution to overturn Roosevelt’s now 108-year old de facto ban on football. After days of testimony from scientists, athletes, and historians, a bill was drafted that would revoke the executive order. In a rare show of bipartisanship, the bill easily passes both houses, and is signed into law days later. Football was officially back. Sources: 1, 2, 3 THE PREMISE Welcome! This is going to be a different kind of Dynasty Mode for NCAA Football 14. Most people that I’ve seen on Youtube have been using TeamBuilder teams, or doing team rebuilds, but this particular run is going to be different that the others. This series will be a rebuild for EVERY TEAM. Well, not really a REbuild, per say, but just a build. This is year 1 for football! While keeping things brief here (I’ll be creating a “behind the scenes” video that outlines all of what I’ve done), this is the setup: -ALL players on ALL teams are now 40 OVR -ALL recruits will have their ratings seriously curtailed -ALL records are reset -ALL coaches start from level 1with 5-year contracts Unfortunately, I do not have a way of editing with TeamBuilder teams included. I’ve experimented with that, and it routinely leads to some rather significant issues. Maybe with some help, I could try a “restart” with those teams included, but we’ll be running with the default schools in their default conferences. I’ve done as much as possible to create an environment where football is a “new” sport (hence the name of this LP, and the based-on-actual-events-but-with-a-different-conclusion narrative above). Obviously, there are going to be little things that are out of my control, but I’ve done what I can, and it will be...well, interesting, to say the least. If you enjoy watching bad football, this is the perfect place for you! YOUR ROLE All of you are going to have a hand in how things play out in this alternate history world. I’ll be coming to you for all kinds of decisions (playbook decisions, recruiting focus, team selection, etc.) when we get to some decision spots. Most of these will come at the end of seasons, but there will be times where decisions need to be made during the season (or I’ll just decide to do something like change playbooks or what-not). I’ll be sure to make those prominent in posts so y’all can see them easily. Before we get into the first recorded episode, I do need some input from you! Since we’re starting from scratch, I’ll need to know WHAT TEAM TO PICK (see the full list here, and don’t worry about their overalls—it won’t matter ). Also, this is your chance to get in the game! Give me a player to put into whatever team we’re playing as! You can be as generic or as detailed as you want to be. For example: 1.) You can just give me a name (first and last, no racist/offensive garbage) and a position 2.) You can give me the above plus a number (I’ll do my best with this!) and height & weight 3.) The above plus specific cosmetic choices This video shows off ALL of the options available, if you’re not certain, look here Choices are done until next season. I am excited for this LP! As for a team choice, clearly we'll need the Lord on our side to survive this brutal new sport. And we're goons. That leaves us but one choice: the TCU Horned Frogs

We should be those who are truly blessed in this new age of football. Bring'em young to brigham young. Playbook should probably be focused on running the ball because lol if we're going to find guys who throw AND catch. At least everyone will be able to stumble forward.
