So anyway, Aztek stuff... In the last couple weeks I've changed the oil & filter and transmission fluid* & filter; replaced the blower motor resistor, cleaned the debris from the squirrelcage, and installed the missing cabin filters; replaced hood and hatch lift struts; replaced the vent and purge solenoids (chasing a persistent P0466); replaced the brakes at all 4 corners, the (broken) front stabilizer links, and the rear shocks (matching the front struts replaced last year under duress). Also new air and fuel filters and serpentine belt. Still remaining: removing the intake for tuneup/thermostat/VCG bullshit. *Just because Dexron VI is the latest and greatest fully synthetic stuff, doesn't mean it's in any way compatible with an ancient high-mileage 4T60E.

Finally got around to gluing down the wayward dashpad: Still looks like rear end because it shrank away from the front of the panel, but at least it's not flapping in the breeze.

Alabama chrome. Foil-backed insulation tape. Blind yourself, blind everyone else, cook eggs on the dash. It's also easy to squeeze down a gap with a ruler. Even takes spray paint with light sanding*. *For just long enough, whatever your reason.

And just like that, I realize that they used (almost) this cluster in the Ion, just swapped the tach and fuel/temp around and changed up the bezel.

meatpimp posted:That calls for duct tape in a companion color. Done. Wouldn't call it "nearly undetectable", but it's an improvement: Between that and the upholstery's transition from "ick" to "greige", it should be good enough for even the most discerning buyer of 20-year-old GM vehicles.

Green Car Supremacy: Focus on the positive I didn't want a sedan, or Michigan rust, but there's not much choice at the $1000 price point. It ticks all the other boxes: great fuel economy, A/C, power windows and locks, recent maintenance (tires, TB/WP, clutch). Plus it's not a lovely Aveo or Rio. I'm reasonably satisfied.
