at this point i think that the market is expecting an infinite government subsidy and so the actual economy straight up doesn't matter, nor does risk inequality is going to absolutely skyrocket though

quote:once capitalism is in the depth of a long depression, there must be a grinding and deep destruction of all that capitalism had accumulated in previous decades before a new era of expansion becomes possible. There is no policy that can avoid that and preserve the capitalist sector. If that does not happen this time, then the Long Depression that the world capitalist economy has suffered since the Great Depression could enter another decade. We're going to sacrifice everyone and everything to keep the status quo as intact as possible.

I wonder if this is the start of a kind of 'Frog in Boiling Water' effect where - because the virus only gets gradually worse - the stock market won't react, compared to sudden lock-down and closing of workplaces that caused a sudden shift. So if, say, 10k people unexpectedly died in the US today it would be the apocalypse on the stock market, but in one month, when that's the number every day, the Number Goes Up. edit: we'll see what happens when rent is due.

on retrospect, it was a little optimistic to think that the people who controlled 90% of the money on the planet would ever let the market tumble. heh whoops.

This is a really good model they used to track and predict these prices. transport and packaging isn't included so yes its very possible well, more accurately the contract will specify how much transport and packaging is included. for west texas intermediate theres a town in the middle of nowhere oklahoma where a bunch of pipelines meet that is where you pick up the oil you just bought at the date on the contract you buy. theres other contracts that are for the wellhead; in other words as soon as its out of the ground its yours. this means you need to pay for transport to the nearest pipeline or the trucks or whatever. thats the type of contract that went negative
