My hospital has beer in the pharmacy. It's not labelled, has no signifier or where it came from or what "brand" it is. Just a dark bottle that gets a patient label slapped on before being sent to wherever the patient is. These are only for the people who will be an in-patient for an extended period of time, and only for the *severe* alcoholics. Obviously the hospital doesn't want you on benzos long term, so it's easier for them to give you a specific regimen of ethanol that they can also wean you off of at the same time, safer then weaning off benzos. The immediate emergency management for DT's IS benzodiazepine however.

The cells in the kidney that metabolize methanol are also the ones that metabolize ethanol, and ethanol is preferentially metabolized, so the idea is if you've drunk methanol you're given enough ethanol so that your kidneys can't do the chemical lambada with the methanol and you excrete it before it has a chance to do any damage this is called competitive inhibition namaste

I believe various kinds of alcoholic drink are prescribable on the NHS for end of life care as well as the other reasons given here. It's just helpful for, say, a doctor in a hospice to be able to give someone one last beer if they want it.
