Thanks to Lolie and Jestery I've been doing my homework on gardening. Nothing serious, but I need an additional healthy diversion and growing stuff is pretty mellow.

Been on a ketamine trial over the past few months - I might have mentioned this a while back. Go into hospital before dawn, get goosed with 50mg IV over 40min, goodbye broken brain, home before 9am. Down to two sessions every four weeks now.

All 14 of us on the trial are now in remission from depression & PTSD (no longer meet diagnostic threshold). Five of us (inc. me) have ceased all other psychotropic meds.

If it weren't for the ket I'd be mega-hosed right now between stress from COVID, work, and being there for wife and kids while they deal with same.

It has also been fun tripping balls to good music for 40min at a time every now and then.

The ketamine thing is one guy in Canberra at the moment doing Veterans' Affairs patients. He doesn't make a buck off it, but he's really driven to get it out there.

He heard about it during residency (discovery of effects in 1990's, high efficacy, off patent = no chance to profit = no incentive to pursue, etc) and has chased it over the past decade plus.

Short term it's about to come into larger scale use for veterans, longer term the plan is to use those results to get it approved for PBS patients. He's working with a lot of other medicos - I think the odds are long, but if anyone can get it sorted it's this guy.

For me, plan is to do it for a total of 18 months in addition to talking therapy (EMDR). They've done some functional imaging studies and it leads to high neuroplasticity which is why it works best with the talking therapy. This means it is likely to stick past cessation.

Worst case, we've got to keep up once a month infusions after 18 months.

My wife just did a shave your head for cancer thing after her dad passed away late last year. She raised over $2000 for the Cancer Council.

She asked me to come and finish ‘shaving her head’ for the FB stream for her friends and relatives that donated.

I thought she was doing #2 all over as a step inbetween full length and bare clippers so I took the guard off and finished the job.

She wasn’t.

Edit: Also the clippers were Wahl and corded and they made short work of it.

I saw some calls that if we are bailing these companies out the gov should own a stake in them in return. Seems reasonable to me I guess?

I just made a bastardised sweet potato gallette and it was P loving good

Chunk of sweet potato, peeled grated (idk maybe 400g?)
Couple handfuls mozzarella
Spices as preferred
1 egg
Oil

Peeled and grated the SP, chucked it in some cheesecloth and squeezed the majority of the liquid out

Heated some oil in an 8 inch skillet over medium heat, chucked half in, flattened it, threw some cheese in, then chucked the rest in, let it pootle away for 6 mins or so, then flip and cook other side, fried the egg up and made a Cholula mayo, mayo on top, egg, and a dash of Cholula to round out

At a minimum. Instead of bailing them out we should be buying them out. If it happens a second time they become publicly owned.

Hey Syd and surrounding area goons, a friend of mine was telling me about a newish delivery service for fruit, veg, bread and eggs, all direct from farm bought through like a co-op system. Average about 30-50% cheaper than Woolies, I just signed up for my local one

Divvy Box. Afaik you just mention what you do and don't want but I'll learn more as the local one to me doesn't yet have a full enough roster for people to go ahead (it's a set amount of people that have to go into it to make it viable)

Preordered a Nintendo Switch which hopefully gets delivered sometime later this month since everyone and their dog appears to have bought one and they're sold out everywhere at the moment.

My mum is chipping in because she wants to play it as well and asked for some advice on games. I made some suggestions and she chose super smash Bros over Mario kart which reveals a competitive bloodlust I didn't know she had until now.

Edit:

Now dad wants in as well. Could someone who knows tell me if 3 player local multiplayer is possible for super smash bros with the switch if I get a 3rd controller?
