Yeah if I raise it up on two books with an ice pack in the middle (not touching) I think we're good to go. Thanks y'all. Edit: lovely snipe, have a pic of my dog

The issue with testing is that the majority of laboratories that have had to go through a few stages of addressing the issue in a relatively short amount of time; 1) (early-ish March) Start to evaluate CDC method (laborious) 2) (mid-ish March) Start sending to reference lab (who could handle the volume (?)) 3) (mid-ish March + 1 week) Everyone else had same idea as #2 and now reference lab is probably overwhelmed 4) (mid-ish March + 1.5 weeks) Start to evaluate the flood of alternative tests hitting the market and realize if you're not CA or NY or WA you are probably not getting a large allocation of reagent 5)(late March) Hedge and bring in what testing you can get reagent for Diagnostic laboratories, as a rule, don't rush to start new testing as a consequence of the regulations. While this generally leads to testing that is higher quality that a rushed test it can to issues when having to address a pandemic that evolves as quickly as COVID-19 has.

Mummy Xzibit posted:Awesome, my wife is a public health epidemiologist working on covid response, and the 6 month old laptop I gave her to use for wfh had its cooling fans just crap out. use canned air on it to blow any dust out of the heatsinks. if not, hell, use a vacuum cleaner or shop vac to try cleaning things out. (this could spin the fans up too much but if they're already dead then couldn't really hurt) maybe remove some panels around the heatsink to just let it breathe easier via convection stack something smallish (non metal/conductive if you have the panels off) under the four corners so air can flow freely underneath it point a desk fan at the whole thing at full blast if bios has any settings to undervolt, underclock, try that assuming windows, you can also try setting performance profile to most power saving levels put some cpu temp monitoring software on there to see if/how much those things are helping etc. hope this helps, stay safe

I'll make sure the power settings are set to maximize efficiency. Ice pack at a distance+external fan should be fine I think. Edit: I blew air into the heat sinks, I can dig for my electronics screwdriver kit but I think the most used ones are too worn to get the screws out without destroying them (it's a smaller laptop). Honestly just looking at the exhaust it doesn't look like there's anything gunking it up. The main fan spins up hard for about 3 seconds on bootup then just gives in before the error message shows up, and after bootup there's no fan activity whatsoever and high 90s temps in the monitor. Stuff like the above will be the setup of soo many movies. Terror movies. Comedic movies. Romantical movies. "Canival Soccer": 500 soccer players stranded in a remote island, forced to practice canivalism to survive. Using soccer to choose who live and who is invited to dinner. "Shelter At Home": A romantic comedy of two friends (boy and girl) forced to share a tiny apartment on 2020-2021 lock-down. "Space Invaders":. Crazy comedy about a family fight to maintain their amnesic grandma from going outside for 200 days.

Indiana hospital icu is at 60% full and rising. we only have 1200 ventilators and 1900 icu beds. lots of people still not staying inside and I saw people get invited to a bbq on next door. does this mean cheap property in my future to ascend to landlord?!?! I guess we’ll find out!

At the Mass/R.I Border (from a friend) You’re directed into a rest area with flood lights and ppe equipped officers or personnel. Two lanes Big quarantine style tent and five natl guard hummer type vehicles. I pulled in they approached Asked where I was coming from n going. Work was the answer that got me the left exit now lane. Not the right big tent lane

I mean, technically yes, but the limits don't apply in every store (it's a voluntary thing), and beer, cider and pre-mixed spirits will be "limited" to two cases (case = 24 bottles), and wine to 12 bottles per customer. If you need more than that per day, you have bigger problems than COVID-19.
