Don't you realize that being nice just makes you get hurt?
One solution would be to use a cardioid external microphone. Built in Omni directional mics will always pick up too much keyboard noise.

oh, I'm not worried about MY mic.I'm good at home. I have an array of mics and booms to choose from in my studio as well as plenty of sound dampening materials.
It's my neighbor, 10 feet away who can't find the mute button that is causing the problem.

I'm not really trying to solve the problem of using a mech on a conference call, I'm just wondering how you would even go about quieting a key's rebound. (besides not typing like a maniac)
Like I said I can dampen the key-press noise, but the rebound is a whole different issue.

FWIW Cherry Reds and Speed Silvers are pretty conference friendly.

Has anybody ever used a Soarer's Converter with an old IBM keyboard? I picked up a 122-key model M terminal keyboard (because holy poo poo are the 122-key model Fs expensive; I don't really need NKRO that much), and it has a key with a HID code (0xC2) that isn't mapped to a named key in the converter's documentation.

Does anybody know whether there's a way to get it to use raw HID codes for a remapping file instead of the code names like EUROPE_1 or ALTERNATE_ERASE? Also, has anybody ever used one of these converters to map to a Mac layout? I'm hoping somebody might have figured out what HID codes map to what special Mac keyboard functions. If not, well, I guess I'll be the first.

I've had a similar problem with my mac adb->usb converter, I have some french canadian AEK2's that have weird keycodes and I don't know how to run a debug session on the teensy 2.0 to see how it's handling the weird keycodes.

I decided to just say gently caress it and forked the sctools project. It hasn't been updated in years anyway, so I added macOS-specific HID code labels as well as labels for raw HID codes (for things that aren't otherwise available in the list).

As far as how to figure out what the keycodes are that your keyboard's sending, if you have a teensy 2.0, you should be able to use hid_listen to inspect them. That's how I determined what the keys were on this 122-key terminal keyboard send.

How do I translate Zeal PC switch actuation force to Gateron? I have Gat Yellows and I think they’re pretty heavy. Buying Zilents for my work from home keyboard and my options are 62g, 65g, 67g, and 78g. Gat Yellows report as being 50g and I remember there being a difference in the way they calculate actuation.

I am Fat Man, hear me roar!

I'm evaluating keyboards because now that I'm working from home for god knows how long I can write the purchase off on tax which is nice.

I believe I want a fullsized keyboard. My logic is that I am not short of space and don't know how much I'll miss the numpad, which I do occasionally use. The keyboard will forever remain on my desk connected to my desktop PC, so transportabiltiy isn't an issue. I can't see a reason for going TKL unless I'm squeezed for space, want to transport it, or want the ~aesthetics~.

I am trying to understand the difference between the Ducky Shine 7 and the One 2. From what i can tell, the Shine series was RGB from the get-go? But now the One 2 has an RGB version? What other premium features exist in the Shine to justify the price premium over the One 2?

I think from there, I can start narrowing it down between those two, the WSAD, and any other fullsized ones I stumble across in due course.

Thanks in advance for all help!

edit: A complicating factor is also that i'm in Australia, so maybe some availability is limited. However, I'm not in a complete rush to get it, so longer-duration shipping is also ok.

Zeal springs are probably bottom out force while the 50g for gat yellow is actuation force. If you go to the SPRiT website and look at the list of MX springs they should say what force the stock gat yellow spring is

e: I'm seeing some info saying yellows are 65g bottom out force

One of the big reasons to go TKL or smaller is ergonomics. A full size keyboard pushes the mouse too far to the right (outside your shoulders) assuming a) you're using the mouse right handed and b) you have the keyboard centered around the alpha keys (again for ergonomics). Ergo specialists will generally recommend a detached num pad placed either to the left of the keyboard or to the right of the mouse if you need a num pad.

Not necessarily a big deal if you aren't having any problems due to ergonomics, but if you're looking for a reason not to go full size, that is one.

When I did my comparison shopping a year ago, I tried to find actuation graphs for each switch to try to get an idea of how it would feel across the entire keypress.

For example, I found this one for Cherry MX Grey: https://plotly.com/~haata/78.embed

And this is a NovelKeys BOX Jade: https://imgur.com/d99wb5o

If you have a favorite switch type, I'd say see if you can't find something that looks similar then. Although I will admit, learning to read those graphs took some time (and buying a batch of switches that I ended up hating) for me to really understand them. (More likely, I only think I understand them now).

Probably Kailh clickbar switches- box white or box Jade/Navy/light blue depending on weight. Cherry's tactile action just isn't as good as classic Alps.

Pok3r is also good, or the Leopold F660M which has a different aesthetic you could take a look at. I don't think the latter has RGB, but they're otherwise all pretty similar. And yeah, that's one of the big websites. They're pretty reliable, although not necessarily super fast or anything.

I ordered a Ducky MIYA Pro (which is actually made by Varmilo apparently!) from mechanicalkeyboards.com last Friday AM and it arrived Tuesday AM in an area where Prime shipping was 3 days pre-COVID (:(). I sprung for the $5 shipping option rather than the free one, but that's still impressive shipping time in the COVID age. Stock is dwindling though. The F660M was high on my list of considerations, but they're completely out of stock except for a single model with MX Blues, for instance.

The Ducky One 2 SF (like the mini but w/ arrow keys and 3 nav keys) was my second option. From what I gathered (and this should apply to the mini too), it's still very high quality for a pre-built, but not quite at Varmilo/Leopold level (build quality isn't quite as solid, and they aren't pre-lubed). On the plus side, they have better lighting options/settings, and in general are more configurable/programmable. In terms of the One 2 SF vs the MIYA Pro, the MIYA Pro also uses all standard keycap sizes, whereas the One 2 SF has non-standard sizes for a couple keys IIRC (makes it harder to change the keycaps in the future), though I'm not sure if this is relevant to the One 2 Mini.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here, but pretty much every manufacturer out there uses Cherry Stems. Logitech I think may be one of the sole outsiders, at least on their latest keyboard line.

You will get variation in the size of some keys (Caps Lock, Shifts, Spacebar, and the like), but the stems are all the same.

Yeah, for the most part everyone's standardized to use cherry style stems. Even the box switches have a cherry style cross in the middle and some of the new electro-capacitive (topre style) boards are cherry keycap compatible. I think the low profile switches are the main exceptions. Some of us old nerds have some ALPS switches or alps compatible like Matias switches and there's not as many keycap options but the main incompatibilities if you've got cherry stems are the bottom row spacing. Some keyboards use the 1.5x sized keys for ctl, windows, alt, but some use 1x for the windows key and different sizes for the others. There are other exceptions like ISO enter keys, but that's why there's always a bunch of different modifier sets available for group buys.

And I am extremely not up on what's hot in mechanical keyboards these days so I don't know where to look for a moderately stiff (I guess salmons were ~70cN new?) tactile switch that's dampened so it doesn't bottom out super loudly.

I haven't used salmon alps, but my favorite were the complicated whites from my omnikey ultra. According to this post, the poster thinks salmon alps feel a little like ergo clears which are cherry mx clears modded with different springs. There's a whole world of third party mech switches since cherry switches have been heavily cloned after that post was made and I'm super not up on what is what, but it might be a good starting point.
