where is the evidence? i dont see it

quote:

The growing lethality of the American workplace is fueling a wave of strikes, both union-led and spontaneous wildcat protests. Greenhouse listed a few of these workplace actions:

Last Tuesday, after a mechanic tested positive for the coronavirus, more than half the workers at Bath Iron Works, a shipyard in Maine, stayed home from work to pressure their employer to thoroughly clean the shipyard. Workers walked out at a Fiat Chrysler truck plant in Warren, Mich., because there was no hot water for washing up. Bus drivers in Birmingham, Ala., went on strike because they felt not enough was being done to protect them from contracting the coronavirus from infected passengers, and bus drivers in Detroit staged a sudden sickout for the same reason. Sanitation workers in Pittsburgh engaged in a work stoppage over their coronavirus worries.

This wave of protests is only likely to grow, not just because of the coronavirus but also because of the breaking of the social contract by the rich. By crafting bailouts that favored corporations and millionaires amid a pandemic during which blue-collar workers are being forced to work in life-threatening conditions, the American political elite is playing with fire. We could well see social strife far more intense than even the turbulence of Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party movement that emerged in the wake of the 2008 economic collapse.

The very collapse of American unions in recent decades means that the stabilizing force of organized labor is gone, making wildcat strikes the weapon of choice in this new class war. America may be heading into a period of working-class militancy unlike anything it has experienced since the 1930s and ’40s.

strikes are just the beginning

a key truth that Keynes successfully popularized within the banking class is that you can't enrich yourself off a society that is trying to kill you. solution: give the people enough of what they want to make them chill out.

quote:

BERLIN — A Berlin official, who accused the U.S. administration of “piracy” after 200,000 masks for the city police went missing, backtracked Saturday and said the masks were ordered from a German firm.

In a statement distributed by the city mayor’s office and senate a day earlier, Andreas Geisel, Berlin’s senator for the interior, was quoted as saying a delivery of FFP-2 masks only made it as far as Bangkok before it was “confiscated.”

He had said the consignment was ordered from a U.S. firm and “we are currently assuming that this is related to the U.S. government’s ban on mask exports.” Berlin Mayor Michael Müller also weighed in Friday to call President Trump’s alleged actions “inhumane and unacceptable.”

But Geisel wrote on Twitter on Saturday that he had clarified that the order was placed with a German firm and that supply-chain issues were being “reviewed.”

In a statement earlier Saturday, 3M had denied German news reports that it was the supplier in question.

By invoking the Defense Production Act last week, the Trump administration has compelled U.S. companies to prioritize orders from the United States. It comes as counties scramble for masks to protect their health care workers and other essential workers from the coronavirus.

I told you goons the Europeans would grin and bare it. They ain't standing up to the United States and must certainly won't pivot to China while American soldiers are stationed in their countries.

The Navy won't even let Bath Iron Works slow or suspend working on ships for our imaginary future wars.

quote:

Gov. Janet Mills and all four members of Maine’s congressional delegation reiterated on Friday their calls for the U.S. military to step up its efforts to keep shipyard workers safe amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But the governor cannot force the shipyard to close because it has been deemed an essential business critical to the nation’s defense by the Trump administration, Mills’ spokeswoman Lindsay Crete said.

“The decision whether Bath Iron Works can or should remain open is a decision that the federal, not the state, government has the authority to make,” Crete said. “The governor is concerned about the health and safety of the workforce, and she has been in contact with BIW about measures they are taking to provide as safe a work environment as possible.”

The shipyard’s labor unions have been asking the company for weeks to shut down operations and give workers paid time off. Thousands of people work in close quarters at the shipyard, and many commute long distances from communities across Maine, raising fear of transmitting the virus far and wide.

Yeah, but looking at it and saying "they're making a personal choice to help keep society going during crisis" ignores that they also need to do it because that's their source of income. And a good point above me, it is obviously an attempt to cut off talk of fair pay. They don't need it, they got their billionaire thank you!
