I don't know how anyone can on one hand be reading MadJackal's posts itt thinking about how horrible is and how they wish they could help in some way, and on the other hand poo poo on the idea of building any kind of solidarity with the unwashed masses. Meanwhile Bernie and AOC are turning their phone-canvassing infrastructure towards building mutual aid networks and spreading useful information to those who need it desperately. This is your call to action to fight to make things better and you're arguing for making GBS threads your pants and rolling around in it instead.

Daryl Davis also mentioned that there's little point to trying to convince a room to change, you convince them one at a time. The whole room is going to win the argument, even if you and your tête-à-tête target are holding differing views. Why, someone might even be convinced to say something in public, but hold a separate, private opinion that differs! But these are the people that are now saying the quiet parts out loud. They're the people who no longer have to coax support to get into a position of power, and instead just have to keep others from revoking it. And they're going to be loud, offensive, and insular, while fervent branding of shades of dissent becomes black and white opposition. The main problem is that people view chuds as just like themselves, but with a different background which didn't expose them to the same liberal ideas. In reality these are mainly people who have literal real life brain damage due to chemical exposure. Scott Adams is a perfect example, as is Dinesh D'Souza. They are not capable of critical thinking, empathy or regret.

Once their comfort and safety has been compromised they become more open to basic arguments about how lovely our social safety net is and why it needs to be vastly improved. They have no ability to empathize with anyone in a different situation than theirs, so it requires them personally experiencing unemployment, loss of medical insurance, huge medical bills, etc... Even then that doesn't always work. I've seen CHUDs with disabled kids and I absolutely can't understand how they can support a party that is actively trying to hurt those kids and would prefer it if they just didn't exist at all.

The vast majority of trump voters were middle class to wealthy white people. For the most part you will not ever convince those people to see your side because your own politics is directly competing against theirs materially. Now because most people don't really understand things like "materialism" or "class analysis" it gets twisted and warped into "All chuds cannot be convinced".
