It's hard to be terribly disappointed with the outcome of the leadership election, both because you could see it coming months ago and because Long-Bailey was such an enervatingly uninspiring candidate. Honestly I resented having to throw my hopes and money behind her. But I hope Starmer's political instincts are better than his first acts as leader suggest. What energy I have spare to devote to activism in my new life as a ~key worker~ will not be going Starmer's way unless he proves me utterly wrong about him. I'd be OK if that one dude took his clean break and used it to examine his philosophy, mind. Been a bit hard to take seriously since those bizarre post-2019 rants about the Tory government being like his dad telling his socialist id to tidy his room and sort his life out or whatever the hell that was.

Speaking of beer I found out recently that I quite like newkie brown despite not generally liking any sort of beer drink. Are there any other things in that vein that I should try if so? I like that it's not particularly bitter, just a nice rounded flavour to it, sort of earthy and pleasant.

Samuel Smiths' Nut Brown Ale is very nice, if rather expensive and hard to get hold of. I do remember reading that the owner is an Enemy of the People for some reason. My personal favourite at the moment is St Peters Best Bitter. It comes in a very nice bottle, isn't too bitter, and you can still get a case delivered mid-lockdown via Amazon. They also do an Organic Ale which is stronger at about 5% and is bitter on steroids. I like it, but i's not for everyone.

https://mobile.twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1246397325540458498 None of the candidates for leadership were particularly exciting tbh. But I'm too tired to be angry about this, so Labour members should think of the good things Starmer promised and remind him of them, perpetually. Or there's always an armed uprising of the proletariat, that's always an option.

XMNN posted:basically I haven't seen anyone who's pleased who's not a oval office, which is not a great sign imho Right now everyone is crowing about Corbyn being gone. It doesn't necessarily mean Starmer will dance to their tune. My opinion, the Left called for unity when Corbyn was elected and we didn't get it. We faced down a bunch of undemocratic attempts to remove him. But Starmer won fair and square under the same one-man-one-vote system, so if I expected people to give Corbyn a chance who didn't necessarily share his politics I'm certainly going to give Starmer the same courtesy. Fingers crossed he continues to push for unity, ideally around a platform very similar to the one advanced by Corbyn. If he fucks it, he fucks it.
