You also need animal-human transmission. That requires prolonged close contact between animals and people, which relative to many traditional animal husbandry practices isn't as much of a problem in modern large scale feedlots. LimburgLimbo posted:The recent focus on Chinas death count is primarily a pathetic propaganda attempt by the US. I haven't really seen much propaganda on this front really, except maybe itt. For example a reporter on NPR (American state media) the other day concluded that while China's covid numbers are probably an under count, the trend is probably real.

yep. if the reported trend wasn't basically accurate (maybe not actually 0 cases per day but even just low double digits would be good), then they wouldn't be having such a hard time opening the economy back up without a resurgence of the virus

Here's a CCTV/CGTN video about someone getting criticized online after bragging about eating pangolin. One picture is pangolin blood fried rice, and the other is some sort of soup or stew with pangolin meat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZY7x1166EQ I'm pretty sure pangolin is one of those things that people ostensibly eat for "health" benefits but in reality use it to show off their wealth.

We dismiss things that Trump says and don't give him the benefit of the doubt on things because he has lied so often and so blatantly that you would have to be a giant idiot to believe anything he says based solely on his word. This is the exact same rationale for why you shouldn't believe anything the CCP says. This is not some sort of fringe theory at this point, it's common sense.

No more strange than stuff like dengue coming from monkeys or Ebola or even like Lyme disease is in deer and we get it from ticks. The only special thing about the covid virus and it's ilk is they don't need the parasite intermediaries like many of the sicknesses we're used to. Don't let bats cough on you I guess.

If any of you are still living in China or planning to be, you might want to reconsider and think about what things might look like in a year or two. When all this is over there are going to be a lot of people all over the world looking for justice or compensation for all the death and economic destruction the PRC has caused, and one of the only ways the communist party or angry nationalist mobs will be able to retaliate is against the persons of foreign nationals living in China.

This is advice that I would consider if you are a visible foreigner living in China. Unfortunately the reverse is true as well. One thing that I am worried about (besides all of the obvious things to be worried about) is that my visibly Chinese wife and half-Chinese son might face some sort of very visible (probably audible) discrimination when this blows over. Luckily we're moving back to Ontario, and on the island we're well-known and liked, but still, this kind of thinking gives me the odd sleepless night.

We got a several million euros worth of medical PPE from China, mainly masks, gowns, goggles, gloves etc and over 1/3 of the shipments are not fit for purpose. The stuff we can use is the shittiest quality gear I've ever had to use. I'm seeing articles from several other EU countries including Spain and the Netherlands saying the same things. Just lol

Yeah I'm in Australia where there's nothing more Australian than to tell the people who run the Vietnamese bakery to gently caress off back to China, if that gives an idea how a lot of people seem to be feeling, and I think as time goes on more people are going to be demanding our government grow some balls (lol) and tell China to please pay bill for the endless river of money they're giving out. Best that can come out of this clusterfuck is maybe something will happen to cause the Chinese themselves to overthrow the commies which would probably lead to a couple million of them getting shot until the soldiers get tired of murdering their own people (happens) then a new happy era of Taiwan number one can begin and wealth beyond measure will resume for all. plz critique this fan fic

Setting a trend of originating countries paying for pandemic sounds like it could lead to interesting places. I mean, not that this sort of thing is going to get beyond a "minor diplomatic negotiation tool" level, but if it did.
