I wanted to look up how the syrup was actually stored and found the wiki article on that maple syrup heist from back in 2012, I remember hearing about it but never heard how it was discovered:quote:In fall 2012, the FPAQ took their annual inventory of syrup barrels. Inspector Michel Gaurvreau started climbing up the barrels and nearly fell, expecting 600-pound barrels but now finding them empty. Inspector Quebec Frenchname came to check on his precious barrel pyramid and they all toppled over like a looney tunes bit, and he presumably mugged to the camera while laying in the pile of barrels and went "oh là là!"

Not just his posts, but the replies are a nexus for a lot of left wing organizers right now. https://twitter.com/Zythrst/status/1246846009533247489?s=19 I understand this conflict all too well. I've been struggling to push my local and some of the more reactionary members towards a more leftist stance, but it's hard when the more well-off working class members exhibit FYGM due to the lifestyle the union itself earned for them. But it feels like something good may be building. Gotta keep faith.

His characters are trash and the worlds he build are ridiculously wish fullfilly (a teenage hacker takes down the DHS using xboxes and journalists), but he's always a fun read if you're willing to excuse the techbro stank. Plus his porno tastes seem to appear in every book. I know a certain someone who got interested in trans porn from Walkaway. (Which is my rec if anyone wants to read him given above.)

hobbesmaster posted:https://twitter.com/doctorow/status/1246445488951320576?s=21 Don't Pass is also the only good bet on a craps table One of the more innovative scams casinos have been running are the ol' side bets. Insurance in blackjack is a well known one, but they like pushing all sorts of bizarre, "high payout" (but always, always losing) bets. House edge on a lot of table games runs under 5% or so, but side bets regularly run well over that, and are pushed just as hard as regular bets in most places. It's also not just a lot of odds that contribute, though, it's the esoteric rules around them. Hard to really understand something when it's buried five layers deep in small-print literature.

whats great is due to how cities bid process works, often they have to pay for these cameras monthly and then use the fines to offset that meaning if there are no fines the city still has to pay the company running them so the city is the only one left holding the bag
