Assuming you can even get in, submit an application anyway (be honest with your responses). Everything is so hosed and changing daily anyways that they'll probably approve it even if you do not technically qualify and as long as you didn't lie about your circumstances you'll be fine. Definitely spend some time weighing your options and strongly consider not paying rent/organizing a rent strike with your fellow tenants. That is your biggest and least necessary expense right now.

the programs that the governments put into place actually will probably end up being somewhat helpful but they're behind such a byzantine morass of paperwork and accessability and will take months to actually draw anything from also all the unemployment systems can't handle this sort of load and are breaking under the strain.

I'm explaining that we can only make system changes if they effect patient safety, and this dumbshit director thinks her pet project qualifies as such. She's the one that shared that idiot Medium article, the one that got yanked, a couple weeks back on the all-dept distro list to explain how Covid wasn't really all that bad and it would clear up in the next few weeks. The next day, someone else sent a mass email to the distro explaining that her own brother had just died of covid, and that it should be taken seriously. I hope the director apologized to her directly, but I doubt it.
