Barry Foster posted:I'm not a Sweden but as I understand it all of scandinavia has been electing increasingly reactionary right wing governments More people have gone that way yes but currently we have a Social Democratic minority government handling this. It's an interesting experiment so far. People are staying home to a much greater extent than earlier and everyone who can works from home. School for 16+ is closed but still open for the younger kids. But as some previous poster noted, some places can get a bit crowded still. Rule is that everyone needs to sit down at a table or at a bar stool. At some places that are more of hot spots on weekends the authorities + police has asked the owners to space things out. So my local have removed every two bar stools at the bar and thinned out the tables a bit. And if all places are taken no one gets in which moves it from a 450 guests to a 30 - 40 guests depending. There is social distancing and less people meeting than before, big question is if it will be enough or not. I'm not meeting my parents for example but I do grab a coffee/beer now and again if the place is not too crowded. As everywhere else the statistics are lagging a bit but it looks like the people in ICU have been stable since the 23rd of March. So taking that as a good sign for now. People are still dying though and will continue to do so. Big debate of course on if this is the proper course or not but at least for now it does not look catastrophic compared to other places, we'll know in a couple of weeks. And if things change drastically we're probably up for tougher restrictions of movement like a lot of other places.

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1255275/chinese-medical-experts-in-ph-studying-traditional-medicine-for-covid-19-treatment MANILA, Philippines — The team of Chinese medical experts that recently arrived in the country is studying how traditional Chinese medicine could be used as treatment against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Three of the 12-member team reportedly specialize in traditional Chinese medicine while some specialize in critical care medicine. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Tuesday said that the Chinese medical team is expected to give their expert advice and suggestions on how the Philippines should fight the COVID-19 pandemic. “Like other complementary medicine, the experts will study how traditional Chinese medicine could be used against COVID-19,” Duque said in a virtual press briefing. “Their expertise in critical care medicine will also help us in addressing the needs of our severe and critical COVID-19 cases,” Duque added. The DOH earlier said that the Chinese experts will be going around health care facilities in the country that caters COVID-19 patients such as referral hospitals and community quarantine facilities. They will only observe the country’s facilities and provide technical assistance to our health service force, based on their experience in China, where the COVID-19 originated. The Chinese medical experts will not practice medicine or treat COVID-19 patients in the country but would only give their “expert advice” from their Wuhan lockdown experience and clinical management of patients.

Horseshoe theory posted:Amongst other things, NYC is way, way, way worse than being reported and the death toll is several times higher than reported by Cuomo et al. IHME posted:Based on the now multiple iterations of our COVID-19 death model, we have noticed that, for at least some US states, there are massive fluctuations in the number of COVID-19 deaths reported each day. These substantial day-to-day vacillations are more likely due to an artefact in how statewide deaths are being compiled and then reported each day than actual fluctuations in COVID-19 deaths. As a result, our reported predictions – that you can view and download from the online visualization tool – are now based on averaging the last three rounds of predictions. In other words, what is shown today (April 6) is the average of model predictions from reported COVID-19 death data up to April 4 (model 1), data up to April 5 (model 2), and data up to April 6 (model 3). We view this as an important refinement that helps to strengthen model stability and buffer predictions from data fluctuations less related to observed epidemic patterns and more driven by variable data collection or reporting practices. Weekend under-reporting gonna keep effecting their model then. Cool.

Normally I wouldn’t say something like this, but I have a lot of respect for Boris Johnson. It is hard at this moment for a politician to put everything on the line for what they believe. Two weeks ago Johnson was advocating for Herd Immunity and telling the British public to just ‘take it on the chin’ he received an overwhelming amount of criticism. But he didn’t falter, he went out there himself, a lone believer and was shaking hands all over the place - still pressing forward with getting everyone infected, starting with himself. And sure, the consequences of such a plan are in question as he is experiencing himself, you got to give it to him that he stuck by his word.
