People can't stop leaving their houses and going to parks and poo poo so the New Jersey governor just ordered them all to close. Grocery stores are also ordered to limit their stores to 50% capacity and everyone inside must wear a mask, employees and customers. I was at the store yesterday and I'd say it was about 50% at the time. We went from 1k to 1.5k dead so far this week in NJ so I'm sure it'll get worse before it gets better.

Telsa Cola posted:It can't be stressed enough that we actually don't know a whole lot about this virus yet and new information that subsequently needs confirmation is being pushed out all the time. Right. Proper experimentation takes months to years, and pressure from people and governments to get results sooner more often than not has the opposite effect, as bad researchers muddy the water with poorly-constructed trials and badly-run experiments push garbage data that can be used to reach incorrect conclusions which people and governments latch onto, pushing for more research and time to be dumped into dead-end "cures" and "treatments" that ultimately do little or nothing. We're probably going to find out that some subset of the information we've been leaning on for the quarantine has been wrong the whole time, in fact. The impossibility of human-to-human transmission, the idea that most cases are at least fever-symptomatic, the idea that dogs can get it, the hope that infants can't get it, are universally asymptomatic, or cannot get it badly enough to die, all disproven, and now we're building solid cases against the surface transmissivity and the viability of the Trump Pills, but whether or not they fall this list can only get longer. Just about the only thing we know for absolutely certain is that we don't have an abundance of evidence and we lack the means to collect more quickly, because the hospitals with a lot of cases (and therefore the possibility of experimentation and testing) are almost universally understaffed and undersupplied and cannot spare the time or equipment to conduct reliable experiments and collect viable data. Unfortunately, this sets the stage for bad actors to fabricate or cherry-pick evidence to "prove" whatever they want, a lot of which is absolutely already happening. As I've said before, I'm being over-cautious and zealously recommending over-caution to my friends and family because even though you might look dumb in retrospect for washing your hands every 30 minutes and minimizing going outside if those turn out not to have been necessary, you'll look a lot dumber if you don't and then die. E: Bleusilences posted:Dog can catch it but we don't know if it even does anything to them or they can transmit it because it dies(the virus not the dog lol) too fast. And here is a symptom of the problem. Dogs don't seem to be able to get it normally, I can only find two cases where a dog has gotten it, both from deliberate exposure in a lab and both in China. There is no reason to think dogs can get it normally from the data we've got. Shit Fuckasaurus fucked around with this message at 19:59 on Apr 8, 2020 |

It's run by health statistics guys, not politicians. It's all just a projection, to be sure, but those two charts are less dumb in context, and they will change as the observations change.
