No, because money is made up and what capitalism calls growth is just code for overclocking our productive forces to grossly unsustainable lengths so we can have a hundred brands of washing up liquid and bananas in February in Northern Europe

We're at 7000 deaths as of yesterday. For perspective:
- 56 died in 7/7 bombings
- 96 died in Hillsborough
- 255 died in the Falklands
- 1500 died in the Titanic
- 2900 died in 9/11
- 3000 died in the Great Fire of London
- 5700 die a year by murder or suicide
- 23000 die a year from injuries, poisoning and accidents

America is going to be at 1x 9/11 a day by middle of next week if trends hold.

Do you know how the Conservapedia guy was convinced that Fidel Castro was secretly dead, like 15 years before he actually died, and kept insisting so against all evidence or logic? I think I'm going to become him if they keep claiming that Boris lives.

Big assumption that all countries would suffer equally, though your general feeling about the economy being made up is completely accurate.

Won't stop the imposition of harsher austerity in service to the Number though. Only mass action would stop that

If almost all countries have suffered economically from the virus, then they all remain (relatively speaking) in proportion to each other, so does 'economic recovery' matter on the macroscale?
Obviously individual people need to be ensured provision of the necessities of life, but at the macroscale does it matter? Is there a league table of world economies? No country is going to gain some kind of economic advantage here as all are affected?

(I'm feeling around at some vague thoughts here with this scramble to 'get the economy going' talk.)

The source of capital is labour. The only way to gain any advantage is to reduce the amount of labour lost due to lockdowns and illness absences.

Also, the places that fall deep into recession are more likely to see defaults on its loans and similar assets. That's going to see a lot of collateral assets falling into the hands of the capital class at a point where they're producing no value and might not have any local buyers interested. Any place that does get an advantage could be in a position to claim these assets for a low price as their prize and begin harvesting them for capital once the labour force returns.

If you were expecting some kind of collaborative globalist operation to mitigate the economic damage worldwide, the only question I'd have is 'why would they?'

Even if he doesn't die, he's going to be out of action for a long time now. Just cause the docs rate him as 'not imminently about to die' and send him home doesn't mean he'll be back at work next Tuesday. It's going to be a very long and unprecedented period where he's around but not running the show.

Has anyone heard from Cummings lately? Last seen running away from No.10 with the rona in tow.

There's a depressingly large number of things where you need a passport as ID if you don't have a driver's license. Might have something to do with that huge spike in UC applications, unless they've changed the system since I checked last.

I applied for a new passport a week or so before the lockdown, though only as i changed my name recently and i don't have a drivers license. So now my only photo id is a shiny new passport delivered to my parents house on the other side of town which i absolutely cannot go to for the time being. Haven't asked them to check what colour it is yet. Main thing i used it for was picking up parcels though, so it's not like I'm going to have trouble being in for deliveries for the foreseeable

My passport expires in April but the passport application page says not to apply for one unless it's urgent, so I'm also hoping a driving license will suffice for any official purposes in the foreseeable future.

Absolutely illegal because if he is paid in arrears he had already performed the work he is being paid for, which means he cannot be furloughed for that period and the company cannot claim for it from the government.

not really something there can be an argument about. either he’s been paid in arrears or in advance before. or half n half, some places do that.
get him to check what his contract says, but also you can just go off history of previous payments.

if they have hosed up and done it wrong, that’s blatantly illegal. best of luck getting that sorted quickly
