holy poo poo now that dude knows how to make a blender tutorial he talks to you like you know what youre doing. which is fair because if youre doing motion tracking youre probably not a beginner

they are seriously so good. if i was the blender foundation i would pay him to do one for every feature because it is such a great way to get introduced to all the blenderparts with minimal context

I had a go at one of ian huberts tutorials and wow are they condensed, i'm a beginner but it's still like 1s takes 10 minutes. Great way of learning though, for the most part you can work out roughly what you need to do and it forces you to understand it instead of blindly following precise steps. e: got motion tracking working with bit too much trouble, now to draw the owl distortion park fucked around with this message at 21:37 on Apr 8, 2020 |

the thing he doesn't mention in the motion tracking video is that you need to get the lighting right on your objects or they will look like poo poo, and while i don't know enough to say it's hard, it certainly isn't easy. I wish cloud renders were integrated into the blender UI - the ones I've found online all require you to go and do some manual steps and my laptop strugges with cycles. distortion park fucked around with this message at 15:37 on Apr 9, 2020 |

the latest blender has an incredibly powerful noise reduction filter in the compositor, have you looked at that? you can get away with disturbingly low numbers of samples well why not posted:i downloaded a skull model from somewhere but i did the lighting and material and rendering etc. i wanted to make something like I saw on the SHADES live stream I watched yesterday. show it I love skulls

I wanted to make something reminiscent of the foggy goat skull that pops up around 27 mins in. so sick. someone on here might find this cool as I do. how do you fog in blender? well why not fucked around with this message at 00:27 on Apr 10, 2020 |

very slowly you need to render a volume which isn’t necessarily hard but it’s a lot of loving to get the right absorption values and then it’s very very slow to render luxrender has a bidirectional solver which in my experience was far far faster. I’ve never had much luck with volumetric lighting in cycles, it’s taken orders of magnitude more samples to not look like a mess

I don’t mean to put you off. having rear only lighting without smoke and some decent fog glare ( a post process effect ) would be what I suggest you’d dive into first but 🤷♂️

# ? Apr 10, 2020 00:33 |

If your lighting is very flat you can use a weak emission volume instead of a scattering one but that doesn't give you any of the cool effects

that's kinda cool. makes you realise blender isn't really limited to 3d at all, but it's a generally powerful graphics anything I had an idea for some fluid sim I wanted to do. couldn't make what I wanted it to do so I made this gaudy instead. fluid sim really not feeling that great but what ya gon do https://gfycat.com/soggyafraidlhasaapso

loving good poo poo bro how are you achieving dispersion? is that the glare node? I’ve wanted to learn how to code up an image processing node to make glare significantly better. the “threshold” nature of it leads to some horrible results at times 🤔

I basically copied the first part of the answer on this stackoverflow question. You can create glass materials with different refractive indexes for different colors to get nice looking dispersion. Yeah, it's the glare node. I just messed with it until I thought it looked alright. I doubt it would look good in a more complex scene. Another animation I made https://i.imgur.com/NmyVRkp.mp4

I thought that was how you did dispersion. I've been trying to find better ways to do it but unfortunately since cycles sends RGB signals there isn't much of a better way. I once made a 10 node version that used maths nodes etc to control IOR and variance and had 10 glass shaders, dividing the total colour spectrum into ten parts, but it looked no better and was noisy as hell as it had to add 10 shaders. Adding shaders rather than mixing them allows some unrealistic effects which are kind cool. I use the "fog glare" on the glare node quite a bit for the bloom effect I have on most things: https://twitter.com/rodtronics/status/1168300296415502336?s=20 I don't hold back lol I basically want to edit the node somehow so that there isn't a threshold, well, that the threshold has a shoulder or a size (idk the correct term), because it can look horrible how glare can exist on something but it's neighbour which is slighty dimmer won't exist at all. also would be nice to work out how to code image manipulation with blender coz that composition tool is quite powerful

https://twitter.com/rodtronics/status/1171763970396569601?s=20 see I feel like the glare could be "nicer" here. it doesn't animate well. also I'm looking at it and realising I should have added fog glow glare to the star glare, it could have looked nice. the "get lucky" video from daft punk is what I want

Is something like this what you're going for? https://i.imgur.com/JvC4a0S.mp4 I think the trick to getting a lot of glare is having a bunch of light on the spots where you want it. For this render I made a light box and rotated it around the text.

el_jorge posted:Is something like this what you're going for? thats real similar to what I did except you've probably used much bigger lights which has given a large benefit. I beveled my text so it was only the bevel that caught the light. I'm hosed off I can't find the blend file, I want to go back and make the light much larger, yours looks real smooth and I like that also how are you rendering to video? I hope it's imgur thats ripping apart the quality?
