There's a video I won't link, a guy is standing in front of huge steel cylinders being hammered and the thing shoots out and knocks him forward, and he face plants on the bright red mass of steel, it's scary.

A lot of times when eagles are flying together like that they're on a date & trying to figure out if anyone's getting laid.

My uncle was posting pics of his shop and I spotted something amazing in one I've asked for more pictures and details on milk crate bandsaw. It might be more of a thing for the mechanical successes thread if there is one. Edit: he made two of the things... Boogalo fucked around with this message at 06:32 on Apr 11, 2020 |

Boogalo posted:My uncle was posting pics of his shop and I spotted something amazing in one Looks like he made something like a Portaband table, or basically just mounted a portable bandsaw in place. Might be wrong, but the manufactured look to the bandsaw vs the milk crate construction seems to indicate that.

Yeah, you don’t wear gloves (or rings) around power tools that rotate or spin. You’re just asking for fingats to get ripped/sliced off, crushed, or degloved (and by that I mean skin torn off in the most horrendously painful manner possible).

The first time I heard "deglove" was in the context of a person woodworking while wearing a ring on their finger...with little else to go on it didn't take long to imagine what that meant.

During my first week of mechanic's trade school, they told us not to gently caress about with compressed air, not to gently caress about with bearings and definitely not to gently caress about with compressed air and bearings. A dude in second year clearly missed that class and as another student was walking over to tell him why it was a bad idea to spin up a bearing on his little finger with compressed air regardless of the cool noise it made, it seized and twisted his fingat straight off. I didn't see the end result but the high pitched whizzing whine of the bearing was replaced by a high pitched wheezing scream from the student. Didn't see him again after that.
