They always have some dumb anecdotal story about the USPS sucking and wanting to outsource to UPS. Where the gently caress else can you give someone an envelope and 55 cents to move it to the rear end end of a volcano in Hawaii? Without USPS setting a price floor and providing logistics FedEx and UPS would jack the prices up and stop delivering to most places. The customer service complaints are all due to funding issues murdering retention and having to hire under paid and under insured "city carrier assistants".

My wife worked for the USPS a couple years back and the sad truth is that it does suck. Every anecdotal story about how the mailman bent someone diploma in half or walked through the flower bed is probably true. It sucks by design. The 2006 law gutted it financially, but in 2010 McKinsey consulted a bunch of changes that hosed it up for employees and consumers. Even more specifically, Pete loving Buttigieg was on the McKinsey team. No poo poo carriers are going to cut through yards and drop kick your package onto your porch when their routes are timed down to the second, because every old lady wants to meet them at the mailbox and chat, but their manager is tracking them via GPS and will be calling them if they stand in one place for too long. The employees are split into a wage-slave class of "part time" employees that are full time with no benefits, "full time" employees that get benefits and (toothless) union protections, and non-union management that essentially get paid to sit at the office and watch netflix and bully everyone else. Everything about it is designed to make everyone hate it while it fails financially at the same time. The only solace I take in it dying that every full-timer my wife worked with was a huge FYGM chud. Sorry for the rant. I've never been as angry on someone else's behalf as I was when she was working there.

Ive had lovely luck with them delaying deliveries scheduled for fridays or saturdays to sundays even when it shows as our for delivery then and then marking it as undeliverable because of a blocked driveway at 5am on sunday when they dont get to the apartment complex until 11am at the earliest during that route but i understand its because they are underfunded as gently caress and dont like delivering amazon poo poo. It's still obnoxious tho

My mom worked USPS for a couple of months after getting laid off from her regular job. It sucked. She got a better job, and put in her two weeks notice. She took a bad fall on some ice with a week left, and asked her supervisor if she could just not go out again that day. He made her resign again.

Did data entry (scans of addresses the machines couldn't read) for USPS in the early 00s. I was one of those part-timers who worked roughly full time hours with no benefits or credits towards federal time. It paid well for a college student working nights and let me quit my second job, but hot drat even back then they were to-the-second sticklers. Employees would randomly receive a batch of X fake envelope images and the machine would track your accuracy. If you dipped below a set % you got called over to the boss' desk. Just a desk, in the middle of a warehouse-sized room full of cubicles. Such a pleasant work environment.

My post office is garbage, but after enough complaints from myself (delivering to the wrong address: not like a neighbor- wrong address numbers, wrong street name, a loving business; marking things delivered that weren't, but show up within the next three days; only giving us mail every other day) and other people, they are trying to fix it. I like USPS.

USPS carriers at least know how to access the mail room at my apartment (you need a key to enter), while Amazon's homebrew delivery service routinely fucks it up. I've seen them just drop everyone's packages in a pile outside the front door where any rando walking down the street could swing by and pick up whatever they wanted.

Last two apartments I've lived in required key fobs to get into the building and Amazon drivers would never just to to the front office. I watched them do laps around the buildings for 45 minutes before until giving up and just leaving the package outside a restaurant down the street.
