Hihohe posted:Welll, technically it looks like it work They had earlier bought some cheap Chinese TV that boasted its screen was so strong it was kick proof. Which it was, actually putting a hole in the wall when they kicked it hard enough. Survived. Then they bought a "screen protector", thought to be the same protector used on the chinese TV, except you could tell as soon as Linus took it out it was glass from the sound it made when he tapped it. So yeah, it did work, but why even make a screen protector out of glass when it could be acrylic and actually stand up to repeated blows. Plus, it did actually damage the TV when the glass exploded.

WITCHCRAFT posted:Getting really off topic here, but the bead veil thing might have roots going as far back as Asian prehistory. It was worn by religious figures in many Siberian shamanistic/animistic religions, is also found in the ritual attire of Mongolian shamanism (Tengrism), as well as Tibetan Buddhism (which contains a bunch of pre-Buddhist beliefs and imagery), suggesting that they all diverged from a very early religion that spanned most of northern Asia. It was not unified, just a kind of word-of-mouth spread that ended up all over the place. Ritual clothing in the far northwest of North America even shows signs of influence. Behold! A pre-buddhist shaman:

I'm sure these are the same morons who don't wear a seat belt so they can be "safely thrown clear of the accident."

Megillah Gorilla posted:Which is still just stupid beep-boop bullshit. I call bullshit. Let's look at something that's completely understood: software. We have an comprehensive and detailed theoretical understanding of how software works. The systems are completely explained and mathematically described, from top to bottom, even proprietary systems, because the executable code that runs is well defined (within a certain degree, but there are margins of error in physics, too) and (mostly) easily examinable. That doesn't mean we know how the system, as a whole, will react when we try something. Most of the time the system is well-behaved, and then something comes up and you have to spend a good weekend or month digging through what could end up being every single layer to find what specific interaction, of the literally millions that take place, caused the problem. And that's for something that we fully have access to, where doing the equivalent of double-blind studies on the entire system is mostly pretty cheap. The BSDs are fully described and written by mostly competent people, the compilers that compile said code are entirely inspectable. But we still find new bugs at all layers of the architecture every day. Complex systems can and do exhibit random and unpredictable behaviour, even if they are fully explained and described on a micro level. And computer systems are nowhere near the scale of complexity of the body. alexandriao has a new favorite as of 05:12 on Apr 12, 2020 |

If you used it merely to hold a filter it might be okay-ish? People can use a vacuum cleaner bag, coffee filter, paper towel or whatever they have as a filter without putting any holes in the filter itself. No, its' terrible. Even the "this is just to hold the filter" kind usually have a pocket, to keep the filter from shifting. And some kind of wire to keep it snug against the nose.
