The soundtrack is great. They took Nobuo Uematsu's original score and recreated it fairly true, with a lot more varients of the same major themes in like higher energy vs ambient motifs to blend depending on whats going on.

Going into FF7 blind as an adult is probably a bit cringe yeah That said I only really played SNES and Starcraft/Delta Force/C&C prior to it. Went to a family friends house and the older brother showed me the Knights of the Round summon and it blew my mind. It’s half nostalgia for me really.

So I bought Earthbound brand new at Walmart in 1996. It was on clearance though so I got it for 15 bucks, box, guide and all. Had no idea what the gently caress it was but the box looked cool and I was interested in giving it a shot. I stupidly gave it away a few years later. I ended up getting another copy of the game and the guide like ten years later when I got big into retro collecting but sold it like five years ago for a cool 250. I loving love that game even if the fanbase is a little weird sometimes.

I got expelled from school the year Earthbound came out and so I was working as a masonry laborer and had enough of my own money to buy whatever games I wanted. I saw it for sale at the local Biggs (was like a Midwest Super Walmart before those were a thing) and picked it up. I still remember the scratch and sniff stickers in the back of the guidebook. I even replayed the game on the Wii U and it held up as well as I thought it would. Such a fantastic game.
