Anyone who knows Labour internal politics - is this sort of thing something the leader's office actually has the power to prevent, or is it something that's controlled by other sections of the party that the leader's office can't control?

Does anyone have a fresh link to the report? The one posted earlier in the thread is now showing "URL signature expired". I thought Jonathan Ashworth was one of the better-rated members of Corbyn's cabinet? Bit disheartening to think he may have been involved, though it's not necessarily the case that husband and wife are precisely on the same page on this. Between this, Rayner being a bit poo poo during the leadership election, and even Pidcock getting a bit TERFy, we don't have a whole lot of good MPs to look to. In terms of Labour membership, I'll keep hold of mine for now and see how this report plays out. If the party as a whole is unable to respond to such blatant sabotaging, then it really is useless as a tool going forward.

On the one hand, Ashworth seems like he's good at his job, but on the other, a couple of days before the last election he threw Corbyn under a bus, then got into the bus and drove it back and forth over him, before setting fire to what remained of his twitching corpse. So, swings and roundabouts.

At the risk of stating the obvious, they're not using 'Trot' in good faith, to describe actual Trotskyists. I've seen it used more often lately, so there was probably some internal messaging within their groups to use it more often. Its basically a snarl word to discredit/dehumanise the left elements within the Party before they even open their mouths. Like 'feminist', 'socialist', 'SJW', its a loaded term - the public generally don't know/care about the details, just that it conjures for them the image of extremists: beardy, beret-wearing, shouting, tankie types.

Tesseraction posted:Pretty sure going down as the Plague Minister isn't his grand plan for the history books. No, but being are brave PM who took the roni on the chin and then came out the other side to save the country probably isn't going to play too badly for him. It's obvious by now that the govt isn't going to get raked over the coals for its piss poor planning for this, nor it's systematic gutting of the NHS which has made it that much worse. As long as he keeps making twitter videos where he tells people to stay at home, and as long as the death toll isn't in the hundreds of thousands, he'll be more popular than ever once this is all over.

Not sure that's "even" of course they've forgotten about it it's politically inconvenient, they forgot about a lot of stuff like the iraq war being done entirely on lies, but near everyone in the UK still loving hates blair.
