The testing numbers are public information. Anyone can see for themselves that our testing isn't keeping pace with the outbreak at all. It's going the opposite direction.

They're not even good at reporting the numbers they do have. For example, the Florida ArcGIS lets you search via zip code. If you look up 33028 (Pembroke Pines) it looks like there's a massive outbreak there compared to the rest of the area. From what I was able to look up, I can't find any evidence of this being the case there... but I did find there was a mobile testing lab there for a small period of time. So all the zip data is completely wrong because they logged it as where the loving truck was set up.

i mean it doesnt even have to be outright "fudging" on an entire state government level but more like some local authority only testing 20% or so of people who die, and/or misreporting some percentage (whether deliberately or otherwise), and the state governments not investigating too closely because its a hosed up chaotic time and just about every state organ is running skeleton crews if functional at all and barely keeping it together as it is.

a collection of situations like that isnt a "conspiracy" but the end result is still the numbers being way off

Well, I would say that the easiest explanation is that this Wuhan lab had bad practices and released some virus filled bats that wound up at the wet market.

This is also before you factor in the chinese way of doing things. China is not really known for the high quality of work.

virus releases from labs do not generally take the form of 'the whole dang living animal just up and flew outta here!'

seriously that's a ridiculously small chance compared to the 100% absolutely known for certain fact of 'bats who naturally have this coronavirus and pangolins were kept together in a wet market'

I have to question the motivation of anyone who keeps wanting to talk about where this came from while hundreds of thousands of people die.

I don't loving care. I don't care if it came from a wet market, a research center, or if Kim Kardashian queefed it out at a Harlem Globetrotters game, none of this changes the reality of what is happening in any conceivable way.

Once we have this under control, yes, investigate the poo poo out of it so we can create best practices to avoid similar events. But if you are talking about bats right now it's because of either racism or some agenda you feel the need to push that you care more about than human lives, and there is no option 3.

I'm sort of worried about his social development. He's a year and a half old and he now has zero social interaction with anyone other than his parents. He used to play with other kids but now he hasn't interacted with anyone who isn't us in nearly a month. If this goes on all summer is it going to stunt him or what?

Same here, my boy is 10 months old, he’s supposed to be socialising so he doesn’t end up weird and that ain’t gonna be happening for a while.

It’s a genuine worry, I hate the thought that this is impacting on him in any way at all.

I woke up like this
I got an email from the NFDA asking if I wanted to volunteer to travel to covid-19 hotspots and offer my services as a mortician due to morgue and funeral home overcrowding. They’re even accepting mortuary students who haven’t finished their degrees or, obviously, sat for their National Board exam. It’s loving nuts to consider that we are in such a state of emergency that the FTC is kinda looking the other way when mortuary students still in school are probably going to be doing things that usually require having a license.

I volunteered to go to Texas during Harvey, and got recalled home when Irma headed this way. Any other time I would be like hell yeah, I volunteer! But I’m immunocompromised and it’s irresponsible for me to go, I’ll probably end up adding one more to the overflow. There has already been a case of covid contracted from a cadaver, so there’s a precedent for it.

This is nuts.

It would be indeed be really stupid for someone to take a few bats slated to be killed (or even their corpses that they were supposed to burn) to the nearby market for a quick buck.

Fortunately stupid people are few and far in-between. Most of humanity is entirely logical and not at all shortsighted or willing to put long term caution aside for short term benefit.
