Anecdotal gym talk... I coach in a rowing club that has been in constant talks on whats going to happen and looking like when operations start back up again. We have 200+ regular active members with 500+ on the rosters. Coaches running virtual strength workouts, regular zoom challenges, etc. Cycling rowing machines and gym equipment on check out basis, getting deep cleans between each checkout. It's a very active committed group. The gym section of the club in no way will open before testing becomes a thing. But allowing boats to go out with supervision is indeed something that is being discussed in a limited fashion as social distancing starts to ease a bit. Private boat owners still take their boats out after all. They also could be seen as the assholes who give no shits they might need to go to the hospital after getting flipped by a seaplane with no backup. Whats the cleaning and contact procedures look like? What does it look like to have 6 boats going out with a launch boat, that could effectively be done within social distancing and contact guidelines? A little creativity could make it possible. Separating groups into risk factors while maintaining maximum space. Rowers take discipline pretty seriously and when things were shutting down the cleaning procedures were extremely well followed. Not in the camp of "WE GOTTA OPEN NOW FOR AMERICA." All racing and competition has been shutdown for the year, but the sport itself and the challenges it presents do bring it together as a community. There are those that are discussing what some sense of our normal activity could be. poo poo aint going back to normal, but what the new normal going forward is very much a discussion worth having.

Anyone else remember that quaint time in American history where tens of thousands of Americans died in Vietnam, dozens more were dying every day, and the unpopular incumbent president had the good sense to decline the nomination and not seek another term? LBJ was more popular during this point in his final term than Trump is. And thousands are dying every day, not dozens. So much winning. I guess that makes LIBERATE MICHIGAN the Hard Hat Riots of 2020?

At the suburban rec center I went to I don't think I ever observed someone older than me wash their hands in the men's room. I'd be washing mine and they'd be in and out before I was done. I remember thinking that in a Spanish flu situation they'd probably kill both themselves and their grandkids. Kinda glad the roni mostly spares children.

I've been to one here a couple times for birthday parties. The whole place smells like 30 years of drat child. The pizza is not the worst I've had (I prefer it to Dominos, not that that's saying anything), but they make most of their money off the video games and stuff. Kids scream at their parents for "plays" on their cards and they play dumb games for a few seconds for a few tickets. Then they scream for more plays, and then they go to cash in their tickets and the parent realizes $20 worth of "plays" has yielded a 2" toy dinosaur and a tootsie roll.
