That is incredibly sweet. The last concert I went to I met the self proclaimed 'pit master' in the line to get it. I had a chuckle at this, until the concert started and the motherfucker was legit looking after anyone that fell, organizing the bigger blokes to help crowd surfers get up and generally being a nice dude. I've met the nicest people ever at metal concerts. Strangely the worst crowd experience we've had was at a Daryl Braithwaite concert.

I was in a mosh pit for Lich King a few months ago, hadn't been in one in about 8 years, and the Code was still there in northern Mexico. You always have that one guy who doesn't get it, starts throwing punches and just gets shoved out of the pit or worse. I was wary since I'm well into my 30s by now, but it was every bit as exciting and exhausting as I remember. "Back in the day" there was a guy in the local metal scene you would see at pretty much every concert for every band. He was blind, and would go into the mosh and he would always be safe. Everyone knew who he was, and he usually just had a couple of people with him, but people would still take care of him.

Yeah I’m almost 50 and I stay pretty close to the pit because if I’m at a show I want to be able to touch the amps. Also a venue shouldn’t hold over 250 people or so total so the pit can’t really get that big, but even when it’s almost wall to wall people are very cool at super harsh shows. I would absolutely be more worried about some douche punching me at something like flogging molly than at a crazy noisy underground show.

I was at a Melvins/Jello and the Melvins show back in the day and there was a giant dude in a denim jacket that had a huge confederate flag backpatch, he was wasted already but kept pulling tallboy cans out of his jacket, I'm not sure how many pockets he had on inside of that thing but it was wild, like a clown car. Anyway he was standing in the back with like the soundguy and the olds who just wanted to stand there and watch the openers with their arms crossed and like a pregnant lady and just kept wanting to get rowdy and start a pit, in the back of the venue. He kept getting beers out and drinking half of them then throwing the half-filled can into the crowd and would push people from behind to try and get a pit going. Eventually some little skinhead guy (he was picking a fight with Mr. Confederate so hopefully he was a SHARP and not just a neonazi) came up telling him to loving cut it out. The skin was like a full head shorter than Lynyrd Shythyd, probably more than 12" difference between them. The confederate guy just scoffed and made a sort of mocking "putting my dukes up" gesture. The skin just like hopped up and hit him once in the jaw and, my dudes, the big guy came down hard. Landed on his face, didn't even put his hands out to break his fall or anything. Eventually some people working the show managed to scrape him up off the floor and bring a mop to clean up the blood pouring out of his severely busted nose like this poo poo.
