We're still a good two or three weeks away from the fallout caused by the Easter weekend, let alone the inevitable second peak after the lockdown is eventually relaxed.

The moment we get even a mild relaxation of the lockdown, plenty of people are going to see it as a sign that it's ok to rush out and do everything that's been denied to them for the last couple of months, especially if the weather is decent. On the very first day, the beaches and parks will be packed, and social distancing will go out of the window. I'm expecting a relaxation sooner rather than later, and expect my workplace to be reopened by the end of May at the earliest. I think the exact date will depend on the government and public perception of how well or badly the relaxations in continental Europe work out, and any mild good news fro there will result in us 'going in hot'.

I'm definitely drinking more. Don't have to worry about rolling myself onto the train and looking like a human being to coworkers if I have a hangover, not driving anywhere anyway, aaand we ordered a case of our favourite wine just before lockdown started and we have nowhere to store it except in the middle of the living room so I keep being reminded it's there. I haven't yet given in to the temptation of pouring myself a drink while I'm working but I dunno if I'll hold out forever if work gets particularly stressful.

Good to see you again - I'm a pretty steady drinker anyway, though I'm finding I keep running out of booze if I start when I feel like it. I think if you can afford it and want to rather than needing to, crack open a can ey. All these little bits that we're usually told to avoid but we like (booze, games, lie-ins, whatever) are probably better for our mental health and therefore better for getting through lockdown. I'd swap all of those things in a heartbeat just to touch someone, but as I can't, may as well sup.

Massive flaw with that prediction in The Sun, schools open up on May 25th. That's half-term holidays. Of all the weeks they could have picked its the only one that's impossible.

Not to defend the Sun, but I'd assume that if schools reopen before the wider lockdown is released (so no family holidays) the term times are going to shift around to both make up for closed time and to provide childcare for (more) workers.

Did have a few beers last night though and thoroughly enjoyed it. With that said, you just gotta do what you gotta do in a situation like this. Anything beyond June seems unpalatable to folk, then I bore them further with saying if we lift the lockdown too early we'll have to go into another one then all of this will have been for nothing. There's no treatment, no vaccine, prevention is patchy at best and at most 10% of the population have been infected at this point, and the Government *still* don't seem to have any kind of planning or infrastructure being planned for test-and-trace. We *will* have to go into another lockdown, the only real question is timing and where we want to start it in relation to the flu season - do we want it over with before the flu season? Overlapping with it? Put off until after it? Bearing in mind the lockdown would also work against the flu it's an interesting question, but also leaves us with the possiblity of CV and flu combined ramping the hospital occupancy rate up much quicker, as well as the chances of getting both at the same time (particularly in hospital). The big unknowable is how much distancing people will do even with all restrictions eased - it's possible (although not that probable IMO) that we can keep the infection rate low enough with residual social distancing to keep under bed capacity (which will have to drop a bit just to let the poor buggers have a holiday).

Personally, hairdressers should be one of the last places to reopen.
