not to drag current events too far into here, but this is important news: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/two-pet-cats-test-positive-covid-19-n1189841?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_maquote:Two pet cats in New York state have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the federal officials. This marks the first time a pet has tested positive for the virus in the United States. there are probably still questions about can/how cats might transmit to humans and it's not worth debating it here. but if there is a link there then the implication for cats outdoors is pretty severe. if you have an outdoor cat i'd start getting them used to spending more time indoors now. they might need to make a rapid transition to indoor cat in the near future

Milly and Butters both being shelter rescues have the herp as well and sneeze a few times a day but are otherwise living with it just fine. Just one of those things. I do keep a pile of qtips on my desk so they're handy if i need to grab one to clean Milly up when she gets too goopy otherwise it gets on everything she rubs her head on all the time.

Sadie has that too. it is generally uneventful but she has been known to come running over to sneeze on me before which is awful. she also will have the occasional cough, but it resolves quickly even if it looks odd. we pay extra for the good air filter and run a hepa filter at night which seems to help greatly. Misty used to have asthma which was horrible when she had an attack, it basically manifested as her hunching down and then doing deep wheezing coughs every few seconds for a few minutes straight. but it was very rare once she was pilled up for it.

we had a cat with diabetes a long time ago, it was weird that he didn't really mind at all being held down to get his insulin shot every day, but the pill? absolutely gently caress you for trying to give him a pill you'd think being literally stabbed would get a greater reaction than trying to feed him a little wad of butter with a prize inside but nope!!

If you think your cat has hairballs but you never see an actual hairball come up they probably have asthma

Grand Fromage posted:we had a cat with diabetes a long time ago, it was weird that he didn't really mind at all being held down to get his insulin shot every day, but the pill? absolutely gently caress you for trying to give him a pill Our technique was extremely spoiled: we used raw chunks of heart meat or something; cut them into tiny little bits the size of your fingernail and hide a pill inside with an incision. It'd usually take two or three to get her to eat the pill without spilling. Too big and she could eat around it, but if they were small enough she'd have to give up and crunch down eventually. And she'd get some more chunks after the pill to make sure she didn't think of it as just pilling. She liked the meat enough that she didn't object to the whole event. It turned into a very ritualised event, I'd come out with a chopping board full of meat and give them to her one by one, pilling until they went down (by the time she was 18 or 19 she was on three pills in the afternoon, and we'd do the big pill in half), then feed her the rest, and the show her my empty hands to signal it was over, my sister said it was freaky they way she understood the gestures and immediately reacted, like we had our own sign language. I think it was asthma, hyperthyroid and heart pills? Or maybe liver/thyroid/heart and we only did asthma if she had had an attack or it was in season. And also she took stool softener as a liquid that got drizzled onto the dinner later. Lots of medicine but once she was on pills her quality of life was perfectly fine.
