Somehow getting addicted to hairplugs and nearly losing his voice made Joe Buck at least likeable on social media and vaguely tolerable in the booth (to each their own there)

To no real surprise, the NFL Draft did gargantuan numbers https://twitter.com/rickporter/status/1253782146466156544 Awful Announcing posted:That viewership number is up 37% from 2019 (11.1 million on the same networks), and bests the previous record (2014, 12.4 million on ESPN and NFL Network) by more than three million viewers. In an interesting note, the three top markets for the Draft were all in Ohio: Columbus (Ohio State had two of the top three players selected, and Joe Burrow initially attended OSU before transferring to LSU), Cleveland (a market that is forced to put undue faith in the Draft every year, and Cincinnati (the Bengals had the first overall pick and took Burrow, an Ohio native).

On the other hand, got to judge a lot of a living rooms

ESPN's response was a pretty honest "Yep, tragedy porn sells and we're gonna exploit the hell out of it"ESPN statement to Sporting News posted:Our NFL Draft coverage analyzes the prospects on the field and introduces the human side of the players by telling their stories, including the obstacles their families have overcome as part of the journey to the NFL. https://twitter.com/MatthewACherry/status/1253860094803980288

Players growing up in a geographical area and getting drafted by a team near that geographical area also appeared to be important. At least early on.

also says will cain is naturally headed to fox news considering all the bootlicking that a lot of other major espn personalities do i shouldn't be that surprised over lebatard's status

CharlestheHammer posted:Did anyone miss Greenberg? He was the definition of bland The problem I'm seeing from that article is that ESPN doesn't want to pay for talent. Not that anything is missed by chuds like Will Cain leaving, but they never want to pay anybody. LeBatard would be fine if he loses his spot, as he'll just do the same show in Miami like he used to, but who is ESPN going to replace him with?

I read in Cinema Discusso that the new head of Disney (the one who may or may not actually be in charge) is known as a penny-pincher, which could be the reason for this news.
|
# ? Apr 28, 2020 00:27 |
ESPN has insane rights fees and does need to cut talent costs but lol the article offers no reasoning other than Le Batard being a bad fit for ESPN as if that's not his wildly successful niche. I figured they would at least throw out something about syndication ratings mattering more than killer podcast numbers. It's also funny that Greenberg is still considered a very successful radio host and not overpriced TV flop, but radio is run by morons. I feel bad for Mina and whoever might get roped into a replacement show.

Nissin Cup Nudist posted:What happened to Bob Iger? The Disney Co. has been losing, by some possibly conservative estimates, 30 million dollars per day since the coronavirus lockdowns started to hit so his retirement was very short-lived. That would be about 11 billion dollars over the course of a calendar year.
|
# ? Apr 28, 2020 02:16 |

Yeah Disney may have a huge balance sheet but they're hemorrhaging money right now and Disney+ subscriptions aren't nearly enough to stem the tide.
|
# ? Apr 28, 2020 03:45 |

Iger came back out of retirement to stay head of disney so his replacement doesnt have to be the one labeled as the coronavirus failure. Iger is there now as just a figurehead to deflect criticism from his replacement. Easy to pin the billions of dollars in losses on the guy leaving.

Get Up and First Take are awful and they should ditch both. Lebatard show is fun because it doesnt take itself seriously, and they should latch onto more shows like that. Not around the clock but they have way too many talking head shows that regurgitate the same poo poo every hour.
