Internet leftists bigging up Iran as a military power until we saw them blow up a civilian airline should emphasize that while the US army is poo poo, it's still less poo poo than any other military in the world. The conventional Chinese military is probably even more toothless than Iran given how little combat experience they have.

LMAO if you're going to stan for the US then "number of civilian airliners mistakenly shot down over Iran" probably isn't the stat you want to be bragging about. Maybe it's something innate to the inscrutable culture of the Americansthat makes them lust for the blood of innocent brown people? "Experience" amongst the lower ranks isn't super useful, technology and training is though. The inexperienced US army did just fine against the most battle hardened army in the world in 1991. Senior leadership experience turned out to be useful since most of the Senior US leaders had fought in Vietnam. Most of the recent senior Chinese leadership did too.

Isn't there a boot camp equivalent of fat camp or something? Yep there's been concern about it for a long time and it periodically makes headlines when there's some new study saying the same thing. You also can't realistically force people to lose large amounts of weight very quickly; imagine the backlash at military run camps of thousands of overweight people forced to do physical labor and run a serious calorie deficit. It would... not look good. Also you can only lose so much weight so fast safely. tractor fanatic posted:iirc they blamed tattoos and antidepressants. fat is also probably a big problem Stuff like that is blamed for them having trouble meeting recruiting numbers currently, but none of that matters if you actually need to enact conscription for example.

But not a real issue, in that if recruitment ever went below what was needed, it could be ignored without negative effect. Was trying to think what actual problem it could cause.

The issue with North Korea is that it’s an incredibly poor and destitute country, if China wants a more effective buffer state between them and the American-led south they need to literally drag that country into the modern age and make it a place that isn’t on the verge of total famine and collapse. The North Korean regime really mishandled the economy and the country in its bid to stay in control and needlessly made its people live 50 years behind everyone else when China can probably institute a more advanced authoritarian state that at least delivers a modern life and services to its people. What happens in South Korea is out of China’s hands, what happens in the North is very much in their realm of possibility to create a market vassal state.

^^ my point was if South Korea is China friendly, N Korea doesn't have a lot of wiggling room in the geopolitic chess board. China doesn't have to worry about Kim dying and whoever win the palace struggle. Plus whoever come out on top will be a hardliner anyway. North Korea opening up and reform the market can benefit their people greatly, but then NK will have to join the global market and supply chain partially and have to give up on freedom of saber rattling with their nuclear missile tests anytime they want. I still don't believe it, but if the rumor of little fat Kim turning vegetable is true, all I want to say is 2020 is off the loving chart. stephenthinkpad has issued a correction as of 12:51 on Apr 25, 2020 |

If you're China the morally right thing to do would be to have nk function with an interim government and hash out reunification plans between nk and sk. They'd be hailed as a hero of the region. However, that means they would give up a client buffer state, so.

I work in pretty high tech research and we hire tons of chinese nationals, not because we can pay them less or they're easier to hire than a US citizen, but because they know wtf is up with some pretty technical subjects. Keeping them from studying here will prevent us from being able to brain drain away the best and the brightest and mostly hurts as far as I can tell. EDIT: What I'm saying is it appears Tom Cotton mistakenly thinks they can't figure this poo poo out of on their own, and being petulant children will just ensure we don't have a seat at the table.
