Note the bright red insides of their mouths. For crows and ravens, this is one of the most reliable indicators that you are dealing with a young one, as they retain that coloring for about a year. Makes an easy target for feeding.

Sorry, I just typed "baby raven" into google and picked a cute picture. Thank you for the information. :)

Absolutely amazing to me how Bill Gates, whose evil intentions were a punchline throughout the 90s (Tim Robbins played him as a cutthroat, devious murderer in classic 2001 hacker thriller Antitrust), managed to leave the public eye and start laundering money through his foundation just long enough to fully rehab his image, in spite of being a known Epstein associate

We locked down so hard we’ve cured the flu

If all people carried forward from this was washing their hands more, not touching their faces, and maintaining distance in busy places, flu numbers would plummet.

Some health authorities are hoping that by the time restrictions can be fully lifted those behavioral changes will have become ingrained.

I kept getting mad that the media kept saying 12 to 18 months for a vaccine because that’s so irresponsible but then I realized how many people are expecting a vaccine in August at the latest and realized maybe it doesn’t matter what anyone says. Half the people I know use the phrase “when things get back to normal” all the time because they haven’t really even started processing what’s happened. A lot of people are running on hope fueled autopilot so their minds don’t break and it might not matter how nuanced your take or how realistic your timeline is because no one is ready to process that information.

that's a fair point. I guess I forgave govs/corps pushing things back only 2 weeks back in March because I figured it would take that long for people to get comfortable before they shut things down for another 2 months, and it seems that's what has happened (intentional or not)

18 months out is already stretching most people's expectations. I think many people still think this is going to naturally go away in the summer without any behavioral changes, even though southern cities have been proving that wrong for months at this point.

It's good actually. They're taking the 7 most promising options and mass producing them simultaneously to doing trails so that they can throw away whichever ones don't work. He says in the article that their estimate is 1-2 years for that to happen, so its better than doing 2 years of research and then 2 years of manufacturing work afterwards.

It's marketing bullshit, but I'm willing to admit that Gates isn't doing it for even more money, and probably thinks he's doing good.

I'm not taking a vaccine that only has a year of research put into it. If they actually follow safety precautions we are a few years away.

what a strange hill to die on

I mean, it would be great and all, but Gates is a tech pitchman first and foremost, so you shouldn't believe anything he says until a vaccine is actually in hand. People are saying all sorts of wacky optimistic things regarding a Covid vaccine, and I doubt things will be so rosy.

Also, remember, 15 years ago Bill Gates promised to give most of his wealth away to charity. He was worth 45 billion. After 15 years of that, he's now worth $100 billion.

The lines are actually the rails in the ground that seats are bolted to. The passenger on the window seat has to zigzag to get out
