All 90 products of Daring Entertainment are available for free on Drive-Thru RPG. They specialize in Savage Worlds-compatible sourcebooks, but did make a FATE superhero RPG called Daring Comics Role-Playing Game. Their Savage Worlds stuff looks to specialize in post-apocalyptic stuff.

Ironsworn's free outside of the bundle and also extremely good. Haven't played Five Klicks, but the other Five X games there are also great. Nordic Weasel is a good company slash person who makes cool campaign skirmish games.

So, the whole Degenesis game line is now free in PDF from the game’s website. On reading, the game is nothing special mechanically, but the art and layout is spectacular (and very NSFW). I understand the adventures are very railroady, and more like short stories than adventure modules. Edit: Looking through the material, I am reminded that there is some sexual content in there that is pretty unpleasant. thefakenews fucked around with this message at 00:36 on Apr 14, 2020 |

I'll have to dig into it more in my off-time but you can see the various mechanical/thematic influences, for better and for worse, with a LOT of White Wolf bleeding into this one. I'll have to give it a closer read later to see what people are even supposed to DO in this Apocalypse; it's a really weird mish-mash of cultural artifacts like you see in You Know Who (Here are the Knights Hospitalier! Here are the... Anubians! Here are the Not-Jews!) but it IS incredibly interesting on the eyes.

Then it wouldn't accept my billing information because it was "the wrong store." mango sentinel posted:Hey you wanna explain why all the books have a fancy swastika and stormtrooper gasmasks? I am... suspect. Theoretically it's a nod to the edition and a stylized sun cross. I agree it's not a good look, but I didn't immediately think neo-nazis when I looked up Six More Vodka, the design group behind the game. Also, this text is in the core book, so make of it what you will: "Degenesis advocates tolerance and international understanding. The game world of Degenesis has evolved from ours and distorts it into an imaginary future. Conflicts within the game world are, of course, not real – and we do not wish for them to be, either. They only exist for excitement’s sake. Although we know this kind of conflict from films, we urge you to use them with caution. None of the seven Cultures mentioned in Degenesis is better than any of the others. All of those Cultures have an equal right to exist in the game world of Degenesis. We have actively avoided the term “race” common to RPGs as we deem it discriminatory. We strictly oppose violence and racism. Illustrations of combat action are not meant to promote violence, but to depict a cruel world we should strive to overcome. Culture and civilization are the major goals in Degenesis, accompanied by hope. We still recommend Degenesis for people 16+ as we cannot be sure whether our message and our appeal to humanity will be understood." I don't get neo-nazi from this. That doesn't mean it doesn't have plenty of problematic material (much like WW before it, as I noted earlier) and some pretty skeevy "adult" illustrations. I'm going to wait until I have more time to read through it to make up my mind but I agree it's... confusing.

That said, not generally loving what I've seen in terms of female representation in the world in the slices I've looked at. Like hard-bad. Given that the two female "icon" profiles they provide in sample fic on their website are someone who stays in a physically abusive relationship and a woman who goes after the father of her child because he must have done something to plant a mutant in her womb... Yeah, not great. https://degenesis.com/world/universe You can look and decide for yourself, but this isn't one I'd recommend to my friends without serious reservations.

And this week's Bundle is Cthulhu Confidential, the Gumshoe One-2-One (1-player, 1 GM) take on Trail of Cthulhu. I'm not super familiar with it, beyond the fact that it has some seriously talented folks writing for it (including Chris Spivey of Harlem Unbound). The bonus collection, though, includes Solo Ops, the One-2-One version of the "What if Jason Bourne fought Dracula?" Night's Black Agents, which is loving fantastic. I'm seriously thinking about starting a F&F of it this week, but spoiler alert: this bundle is worth it for Solo Ops alone. The fact that you also get Cthulhu Confidential and a bunch of adventures for what amounts to $3 is icing on the cake.

I'm not super familiar with it, beyond the fact that it has some seriously talented folks writing for it (including Chris Spivey of Harlem Unbound). They're all great. Pelgrane's writers are diverse and incredibly talented. The Cthulhu Confidential corebook is worth it if you run period games just for the city writeups - they take you through 1930s New York and Los Angeles, and then 1940s Washington D.C. These descriptions are full of fascinating facts, historical figures, and additional plot hooks. And maps, of course. I've run Cthulhu Confidential and - while it's a bit simpler than NBA: Solo Ops, it runs very well. Since there are flavorful pre-generated characters, the mysteries are fine-tuned to match their skills and personalities. Players still get to personalize their character at the start by picking a custom, suitably noir-type problem for them. This is a great bundle and either Cthulhu Confidential or NBA: Solo Ops would be great to run for someone who's maybe kind of interested in RPGs and stuck in quarantine, as long as they already like the idea of supernatural noir/Jason Bourne vs vampires.

Oh, speaking of awesome games, Rose Bailey's Cavaliers of Mars is 50% off on DTRPG's Deal of the Day for the next hour and 45 minutes. I'm biased because I did some work on it, but if you like your Planetary Romance with a heaping helping of Fritz Leiber-esque weird fiction, Jack Vance-ian decadence at the end of civilazation, and swashbuckling adventure in the vein of Capitan Alatriste or The Three Musketeers, snag it while you can!
