Global coronavirus death toll could be 60% higher than reported because so many people are dying before being tested and then having their cause of death recorded as "pneumonia" or "acute respiratory distress" instead of Covid-19, because we aren't testing dead people. Looking at this year's increase over baseline mortality figures for this time of year, we see deaths doubling or even tripling in some places, and the only reasonable explanation for that is that they're dying from Covid but our global testing capacity is far enough behind the spread that we aren't able to confirm their deaths as Covid-related. Anecdotally, I read an article a few weeks back reporting that Chicago's coroner is recording twice as many deaths per day as usual, with a shockingly high number of pneumonia and respiratory distress deaths not being recorded as Covid deaths because the deceased weren't tested before dying.

AFAIK the WHO doesn't think getting infected and recovering provides much lasting immunity so there's not actually herd immunity possible until a vaccine is developed.

Courtesy of my Peak Boomer Energy uncle. This guy also keeps posting about how it's unconstitutional to keep people home, and some bullshit about "say no to vote from home!" Yes, almost all of those points are incorrect or misrepresented. Even with his refusal to debate any of this, there's no debating people like this. I usually don't touch the poop, but have been trying to correct people that are sharing incorrect information and their brains are just shut off to reason. They aren't going to click links with information that proves their argument wrong in any way. They won't even attempt to listen to what you have to say. It's so impossible to admit that they are wrong about even the smallest thing.

I read the one about the hospital ships and that's where I already bailed. Those things have been ready and active across the world for literally decades, there's no "getting them ready". A 3 year old also asks a lot of "Why" questions and it doesn't make them smart either.

I'm noticing a lot more Facebook comments (I know I know) mentioning how Sweden is handling Covid and wishing Canada would be more like that (ironically coming from people who consider Sweden a hellish socialist hellhole most every other year) and I am wondering where did this particular talking point even originate from. Did Fox News all of a sudden praise Sweden? Did someone mass tweet a Swedish link?

Also it’s going really terribly!

Miss posted:wait does having your gallbladder removed make the typhus stop??? Somewhat. The prevailing treatment for chronic typhoid infection is a cholecystectomy aka gallbladder removal. Basically the bacteria responsible for typhoid (Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi) accumulate in the gallbladder, and removing it is the easiest way to control the bacteria.
