the original pitch for hyperloop was to literally melt bedrock using *waves hands* some extreme source of energy so that when it cooled and re-solidified it'd be a vacuum seal. Definitely a person with a phd in plate tectonics or at least a bachelor's degree in geology was on that team. Yep.
