hello fellow anarcho-syndicalists, did you know chapo trap house takes amazon money, Universal Media Group money, and other assorted horrible capitalist entities money alongside a healthy 2 mil a year?
join me in a journey into MONEY, LOADS OF MONEY
chapo trap house makes absurd levels of patreon money, selling best seller books on Amazon, a known hellhole for worker abuse, profiting off of slave labor sweatshops with Universal Music Group, and generally just hoarding cash without giving any to charity or good causes like the Industrial Workers of the World, or food banks, or really anything that's actually good praxis lmao, while claiming to be a leftist voice that wants to further leftism in America.
also, they hosted a person on their podcast that neo-nazi Richard Spencer seems to really like, twice
therefore, they are not in fact the "dirtbag left" as they claim to be, but are in fact capitalist pigs who are grifting leftists for their money
i found everything but the John Dolan stuff with like, 30 minutes tops of googling and clicking the first links I'm given by google
so my roommate has been listening to chapo a lot, right
so I'm thinking hey, maybe these guys are good right, my room mate seems to like them
so i go look it up, right
first result I get on google is their Soundcloud, so lets hit it fellow anarcho-syndicalists
drat bro, these guys seem pretty lit
hella viewers, on their top poo poo
lotta viewers on their new stuff too
they seem pretty chill, guess ill listen to their stuff in a bit
whats this star thing tho
oh, it's monetization
repost network, huh? i wonder what their split is, so i look it up
from a random cnet article
https://www.cnet.com/news/soundcloud-widens-monetization-for-paying-artists-make-money-now/
so a 55% split, according to Soundcloud "Soundcloud Premier" = Soundcloud pro so they get 55% split of any and all ad revenue if they monetize their stuff
i cant find a way to check if they monetize their stuff cuz social media companies like Soundcloud don't want people thinking about the money when they view the website as a consumer, so whatevs
whats this Grey Wolf thing, let's check it out
ah cool, its a patreon, i like patreons, they're good for small content creators like this podcast who need funds to keep going but aren't like, big commercial operations
wonder how much they make, maybe ill donate if I like their content, my roommate seems to like them
thats a lot of loving money monthly for a podcast, thats like 2 million dollars yearly
https://web.archive.org/web/20200430101951/https://www.patreon.com/chapotraphouse (archive link in case they wisen up and hide their payout)
https://www.patreon.com/chapotraphouse
well, it's 6 people, right, so that's gotta be a pretty low split
ah, wait, $2,000,000 divided by 6 is $333,333.33
each member of chapo trap house gets $333 thousand a year if they have an even split on their podcast(they probably dont) in pure revenue from this patreon
thats pretty crazy bro, i wonder what the yearly take home is for a minimum wage worker in a lovely state that still uses the federal minimum?
drat bro, a chapo team member makes a 2110.4% increase in wage from a minimum wage worker in the rust belt
what about someone living in a state with an actually reasonable minimum wage?
drat bro, a chapo team member makes a 968.38% increase in wage from a minimum wage worker in a reasonable wage state like washington
now, you could say "bro this goes to the behind the scenes people"
what behind the scenes people? if they exist, they aren't credited anywhere on the website, the patreon, or the soundcloud!
the only people I ever see credited for Chapo Trap House stuff are the main six, Will Menaker, Matt Christman, Felix Biederman, Amber A'Lee Frost, Virgil Texas, and Chris Wade.
No behind the scene staff are credited, which means that either
1. they don't exist, and it is just a 6 person show.
2. people aren't getting credited for their work in an easy to find place, or at all!
Since it'd be unlikely that a Dirtbag Left podcast would dick over their workers, they must be the only ones working on the show.
I'm sure these guys like, donate to charity right? they're the dirtbag left, and real dirtbag leftists give back to the world when they have excess cash because we are all suffering under capitalism, and if we can help others not suffer under capitalism temporarily while we work to dismantle it, it is our moral obligation and duty to do so
they uh, seem to not have anything about charity work, or really anything about spending any money on their Wikipedia page
have they just been sitting on all this cash?
like, according to this graph thing
https://graphtreon.com/creator/chapotraphouse
https://web.archive.org/web/20200430123010/https://graphtreon.com/creator/chapotraphouse
they've been making 1.2 million dollars a year minimum on just patreon alone since 2018
poo poo bros, thats a lot of money, I'm sure there's a way to calculate how much money they've earned in total but gently caress if I know how do to that, i just googled "patreon stats" and found this website
anyways, so far we've got, for people keeping score at home
- 2 million dollars a year comin' in on a patreon, been getting at least 1.2 million a year from the patreon since 2018
- absolutely no idea where this money goes officially
- no on record charity work done by chapo trap house at all
- if we assume an even split, all 6 chapo trap house creators make $333,333.33 a year
- 2110.4% more than a $7.25 an hour minimum wage worker
- 968.38% more than a $15.00 an hour minimum wage worker
i dunno about you, but these chapo trap house folks seem kinda sketchy
so I'm thinking "hey, maybe these nerds have a website where they break down what they do with the money right?"
https://web.archive.org/web/20200430124704/http://www.chapotraphouse.com/
so I check out this website and I'm greeted with the following:
the very first things I see on this dirtbag left podcast's website are:
- an advertisement to purchase tickets for a tour during the corona virus pandemic
- an advertisement for a book
- an amazing HTML page with no clutter, proper formatting, and no dumb arbitrary javascript being loaded
seriously, i gotta give credit where credit's due, this is A Good Website from a technical standpoint
the website also sells the image that this is just something some random person cooked up in their spare time, a real "average joe" website, no fancy frills, just gets the job done
take note, the rest of the internet, please, i beg you
at this point however, i make a critical mistake and scroll down
what kind of loving dirtbag leftists sell on loving AMAZON WILLINGLY, AND BRAG ABOUT IT ON THEIR WEBSITE
its AMAZON
loving AMAZON
you know, DOESN'T LET THEIR WORKERS USE THE BATHROOM AMAZON
you know, SUPRESSES UNIONS ALL DAY EVERY DAY AMAZON
you know, RUNS COMPLETELY UNSAFE WORKING CONDITIONS AMAZON
you know, FIRES PEOPLE VIA AN AUTOMATED TEXTING SYSTEM BASED ON THE ALMIGHTY NUMBER CRUNCHING MACHINES AMAZON
gamers, dnd readers, c-spammers, anarcho-syndicalists, and other assorted goons, im starting to suspect that maybe these chapo trap house folks aren't entirely practicing what they preach
according to amazon it's 18 bucks for a hard copy, and some googling revealed it was the 6th Bestseller in Nonfiction according to the New York Times listings for it.
I don't know how to find those numbers, so I won't make a book sales estimate, but I can imagine it's a lot.
AND THEY SELL ON AMAZON. AS DIRTBAG LEFTISTS. ON AMAZON. A M A Z O N.
also, there's not even a link to the podcast on this page
like, you know, that thing that they're famous for
it ain't on their web page
two advertisements and a merch store are instead
i check the rest of the site and see a merch store
this is pretty fancy and slick except that its bloated javascript garbage
clearly whoever made the first page didn't make this page, even though its on the same domain
seems like the thin veneer of "we're totally just some random people who made a podcast" disappears the second you hit the money-making part of the website, where we're suddenly back to good old fashioned "leaning tower of javascript" web design that you expect from any corporate website in 2020
I scroll to the bottom and click the privacy policy because I like knowing what happens with my data on websites constructed with more javascript than it needs
OH
drat bros, this is a pretty big company directly managing Chapo Trap House's merchandise sales, especially since Universal Media Group doesn't run any form of easy to sign up with merch store setup that I can find that a small podcast would be able to take advantage of.
i spent some time digging and I legit cannot find any information on where UMG gets their merch from production wise
i can only assume they get it the same place every other capitalist pig dog corporation gets it from, slave labor in sweat shops
every time you buy a chapo t-shirt or sweater for 25 bucks a pop, you're supporting a megacorporation who probably had that sweat shirt made with slave labor in a sweatshop
lets update the scoreboard
- 2 million dollars a year comin' in on a patreon, been getting at least 1.2 million a year from the patreon since 2018
- an unknown amount of money from amazon sales and other book places
- an unknown amount of money from merch sales from Universal Media Group who runs their merch site for some reason
I think the tour got cancelled otherwise I'd count all that in.
So basically, Chapo Trap House is, as we in the business say, capitalist pig dogs.
Now for the bonus round:
Chapo Trap House had John Dolan on their show not once, but TWICE, both as his alias The War Nerd and his real name. Episodes 203 and 331, despite the fact that John Dolan seems to be a favorite of neo-nazi Richard Spencer.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200430120313/https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-203-cats-18280278

https://www.patreon.com/posts/331-wide-world-7-28286336
https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-203-cats-18280278
crazy, bros, absolutely crazy that they would have a guy that neo-nazi Richard Spencer seems to love on not just once, but twice, while claiming to be a dirtbag left podcast
absolutely crazy
now, id like to credit https://medium.com/@areidross/from-exile-to-dirtbag-edgelord-geopolitics-and-the-rise-of-national-bolshevism-in-the-u-s-84822021b0e8 for all this info
John Dolan receives praise from Daryush Valizadeh, also known as Roosh V, a disgusting rapist fucker who sells books to other disgusting rapist fuckers to tell them how to rape women easier. He's not a good person.
Not really a thrilling endorsement for someone on Chapo Trap House.
Praise from RICHARD SPENCER. An actual, legitimate neo-nazi.
Are you not sure who Richard Spencer is?
Here's a refresher.
At least this nazi got punched in the face.
The final scorecard:
- 2 million dollars a year comin' in on a patreon, been getting at least 1.2 million a year from the patreon since 2018
- an unknown amount of money from amazon sales and other book places
- an unknown amount of money from merch sales from universal media group who runs their site for some reason
- Had a guy on multiple times that neo-nazi Richard Spencer seems to really like.
Fellow goons, I think it's safe to say that Chapo Trap House is not actually leftists, and are infact capitalist pig grifters who have neo-nazis on their platforms multiple times.
They are not "the working class", or just your average joes. They're rich capitalists who get business deals, sell merch, and host Richard Spencer's favorite people, while turning in over 2 million a year in documented profit.
If you've been giving them money, you're being grifted.
Stop giving your money to Chapo Trap House. Give your money to the Industrial Workers Of The World instead.
