Granted this is not spelled out in law, but it's in how the police treats one group over the other 100% of the time. And the fact that gun control of any kind even exists in the U.S. due to black communities arming themselves during the civil rights movement. Remember when a black man told a police officer he was legally carrying a firearm and he was executed in front of his wife and child and the response from the NRA and white gun owners was next to nothing? They showed their true ideology that day.

That is 3.5 million people that if they were to get sick with COVID-19 and end up in intensive care, or worst need to be on a ventilator, they would be in debt for the rest of their life. If you get sick in this country without health insurance, its better that you end up dying to be honest. Having a collection agency go after you for medical debt is pretty brutal as they take like 90% of your wages when you do finally get a job.

Or that countless retail, fast food, and other low wage workers are in red states where Medicaid access has been rationed and limited and aren't offered health insurance by their employers. That's if they still have jobs at all if they were working in the hotel, movie theater, restaurant, etc industry, which have been hit incredibly hard and hurt poor people the most. Graham added during a Q&A session, adding that "if a person is making $23 an hour on unemployment, it's going to be hard to get you go back to work for $17 hour job." Lol buddy, I'm an essential employee who works a white collar job and I don't make $17 an hour People decided to protest the lockdown outside my office (city hall) today which doesn't really make sense because the city doesn't make that call, the county does. My state had been doing a pretty ok job with precautions considering our limitations of basically no PPE and testing supplies, but we keep having record numbers of positive cases. So no, I would prefer if you all stayed away from city hall, you don't need anything in here that you can't request via email, fax, phone or mail. I'm not getting COVID because you wanted to turn in your paperwork in person.

So the restrictions in france are to lighten up on the 11th of may, people will be allowed back to work and some stores will be allowed to reopen. A petition is urrently going around facebook with a bunch of people posting on it to open up the beaches. "Use the beaches but everyone will keep safe distance" to go surfing and for walks and whatever. Sounds like a great loving idea, surely no one will break the rules accidentally or anything. Our region doesn't have a lot of cases at least in case these people get their way.

My dad had a heart attack nearly a decade ago and the ambulance cost like $3k to transport him for five minutes, and one of the itemized bills was $90 for the aspirin they gave him. (The three(?) day hospital stay was something like $130k.) Luckily we had good insurance so we just punted the insurance and hospital against each other and they mostly left us alone, although not before trying to bill us for like $28k first. Nowadays it's not so simple, and in any case even if I was in a bad state, if I was conscious I'd at least refuse the loving ambulance ride because gently caress paying three grand. God help the people who are sick and have poor/no insurance, if the virus doesn't ruin them the debt will.

Declare bankruptcy! gently caress shame or we, the system is broken. This talk of killing yourself is overkill. Separately, my boomer mother is losing it. She cannot cope at all. I've known for weeks now that she is taking out her fear and frustration about the pandemic on me; as a fanatical Christian Scientist she has spent her entire life [it was even her career!] denying the germ theory of disease and the reality of any illness. It's been incredibly painful living with someone who hates me, I'm pretty emotionally damaged already. I am determined to preserve though, I am lucky enough to be in CA on UI so I drat well better suck it up. Today she finally said she can't cope in the midst of cursing me when she lost her temper over something I don't recall my cat doing when he was alive around 4 years ago. I know this is kinda E/N, my real point is that boomers and brainwashed Fox news chuds REALLY can't adjust I think- we are seeing this everywhere. Already having realized America was super hosed up gives us goons a huge advantage in handling this novel situation imo.

My dad got sick and eventually died from leukemia complications in 2012, and I'm glad he had very good insurance because the bill for 8 months of treatment before he died was like $1.2 million. It's an insane racket that needs to be thrown in the wastebin of history like every other sane country has. Part of the reason why our health care system is so abysmal is because you have wealthy rear end in a top hat lawmakers like Lindsey Graham who have no interest in engaging with factual information or reality itself, which leads to him seriously contending that unemployed workers struggling during the worst epidemic in the past century were making $17/hour, instead of, uh, maybe $11/hour, after they lost their job working the front desk at their closed hotel... and that's a high wage for many workers in our terrible economy. The people who dictate health care policy in our hosed up horrible nation are so out-of-touch with actual society time and time again. That's one of many reasons why we've never thrown it in the trash.
