It was terrifying to consider the likelihood of some of those people being dead in a month or so. A couple of chud business owners are campaigning so hard to reopen- I posted at them like twice and one of them got my account suspended because I had an obvious fake name 😂 NO one wears masks when jogging or walking or biking ever and they were just a few weeks ago. Governor might be a faker but I'm drat glad of him rn.

NEJM had a good data dive article on covid hospitalizations and what factors increase or decrease your chance of death once hospitalized. Patients who entered the hospital on ACE Inhibitors (lisinopril, enalapril, various others -prils, used for blood pressure and kidney protection) had a 2.1% death rate versus 6.1% for those not on ACE-Is. The only other drug class to show a noticeable benefit was Statins (cholesterol meds such as Simvastatin), they reduced the death rate down to 4.2%. Don't overread those stats though because they haven't been adjusted for confounding variables, but it's still pretty impressive. So keep taking those ACE-Inhibitors or Statins if you got them.

Soooo I started having horrible diarrhea Tuesday and it is now better than the previous pissing-out-of-my-rear end variety I was experiencing then but still not even close to normal. Had a 99.9 fever at one point and bad chills. No vomiting just nausea. My dumb rear end tried to go back to work after having wednesday off, felt ok yesterday but then today I almost passed out at work. Like I had to catch myself or I would have hit the floor. Probably didn't help I didn't eat breakfast (thanks nausea) and only drank a couple cups of water, then just had protein shake for lunch. Anyway I came home early from work and I called urgent care and they are seeing me by telephone because of my symptoms. Expecting a call back in the next hour or so. I bet I'm gonna get tested! Oh joy! I keep posting false alarms in this thread. I dunno why I want goons to know about my explosive diarrhea but I don't really wanna talk to friends about it so yeah. I guess I heard that GI signs can also be covid so I'm wondering if that's what's up. Here I thought I just had food poisoning. I haven't been able to shelter at home because I am ~essential~ and multiple people at my work have had it already so would not be surprised at all if I test positive.

I'm in Florida, where most of the state is following DeSantis' plan for "phased re-opening." Phase 1 starts on Monday. Basically everything is back open except for night clubs, bars, vacation rentals, and theme parks. Social gatherings up to 10 people are allowed. Some types of businesses (restaurants, bowling alleys, concerts, movie theaters, retail stores) are supposed to limit capacity to 25-50% and enforce social distancing. Salons, barbershops, etc. are also allowed to open if the employees all wear face masks and sanitize their stations between customers. There are a lot of "businesses should consider"-type recommendations in the plan that will be almost universally disregarded. Meanwhile, in preparation for the grand re-opening, DeSantis has ordered coroners to stop reporting corona virus death figures. I'm fully expecting a huge spike in fatalities here within 2-3 weeks.

I just went back to work on Monday after taking two months off (used up all of my sick time and vacation). I work at a pet retail store where I normally do dog grooming and training, but because neither of those services are available right now, I've been working on the floor running register, stocking, and helping customers. It has been interesting to say the least. The amount of people who seem to just not care about the virus is disturbing, and the ones that are most vocal about it are almost always in the high risk age range. I've had three women it their 60's complain to me about the precautionary measures being too strict, that the virus wasn't really all that bad, etc. People are up in arms because they can't make returns or use our restrooms. The first thing I saw when I walked in the door on Monday was a sign in front of the register that said "PLEASE BE NICE TO YOUR ESSENTIAL WORKERS. THEY ARE HERE FOR YOUR ESSENTIAL ITEMS" which pretty much says it all. We're doomed.

Yeah, I've noticed that when I'm at the grocery store and see someone without a mask the chances of them being an overweight man in the 50-75 age range is about 75%. It's weird that they just don't give a poo poo.

Spent three weeks at home in bed but got better in the end. All the symptoms minus fever. No tests available in his country. It started after he had spent the week partying at the carnaval, so my guess is either covid19 or deadly withdrawals from too much samba. One week was critical, but they decided not to go to hospital because it would be worse there.

like everyone knows the logic of paid work - unless someone is making you do things you cut every corner you can. extra cleaning is extra work. wearing a mask is annoying and your just gonna pull it down under your chin. your supervisor sees it but he doesnt want to deal with it either. no one follows the rules, everyone knows it, and since there are no consequences nothing happens

The people who dictate health care policy in our hosed up horrible nation are so out-of-touch with actual society time and time again. That's one of many reasons why we've never thrown it in the trash. You know what's a really loving stupid thing? Lindsey Graham is not even close to rich enough to justify his position personally. As of 2018, his net worth was still under $1 million.

I got an antibodies test through my work and it came back negative. I was really hoping I'd already had it and was asymptomatic. drat. I'm trying to see if my dad can get one, since he took care of my mom for a week at home before she went to the hospital and never got sick, I assume he caught it. Does anyone know if any clinics in Connecticut are offering testing? Google is not helpful. Here in Brooklyn some urgent care places have them but apparently the line can get long.

I just watched a webinar that showed a bunch of data from different studies showing that t-cells are depleted on admission, and the more they are depleted the more severe the infection will become. Also there are studies that have shown some efficacy of IL-6 inhibitors to prevent mortality from disease. The University of Virginia's remdesivir trial is showing a decrease in mortality from 11% down to 8%, with recovery times 31% faster.
