Yeah, the FBI dude losing his poo poo is loving amazing. Also I somehow completely forgot that Andy went into the White Lodge.

I should be mad that this episode introduces two previously never-before-seen concepts/backstories as if they're a preexisting part of the show's backstory, but they're both done so well it ends up working anyway: Gordon's "I had one of my Monica Belluci dreams!" scene as well as the security guard telling James about the super-strength +3 glove he bought.

The Roadhouse scene between Tina's daughter and ? (I forget if she's been on before) feels incredibly foreboding and menacing, like an interrogation almost. I can't help but think of Audrey (season 1 & 2 super-confident and getting into everything Audrey) when I watch it, though that might just be because it's the flipside of the story we saw Charlie getting a couple episodes back.

In regards to Sarah Palmer, do you think her screaming and freaking out over the dead body is her putting on an act, or is it the real Sarah bubbling to the surface for a moment between episodes of control by the entity that appears to have hollowed her out (was she the girl the frog-moth crawled into?). The way she freaks out and then the sudden cut to her blank expression of contempt is really quite something, like Lynch had her do the scene in two completely different emotional ways and then cut them together to heighten the sense that something isn't quite right.

There are only 4 episodes to go :smith:

Quote of the week: "What the hell? What happened?" (the Bartender)

Wild West is one of my favourite songs from this season. It just really gets me pumped for the finale. :hellyeah: Of course, it also picks up on the whole cowboy hero aspect of the season. Dougie pointing his finger like a gun, and the photo of a cowboy in the Fuscos' office just to name a few that I noticed. In a sense, even Sarah's scene is a staple of the western genre: Lone gunslinger goes into the saloon, just looking for a drink, and instantly is harrassed by some rear end in a top hat. Then said rear end in a top hat gets shot.

I love how the bar scene goes from extremely scary and realistic to Evil Dead levels of comical in the span of seconds. The Truck You dude seems so menacing, but his cartoonish shriek as he dies and his goofy facial expression don't really convey that.

Sarah, as scary as she is, also gets some of the most hilarious and badass lines in the whole season here. Her "Do you really wanna gently caress with this?" reads like some action movie one-liner. The Truck You dude had it comin', after all. The "Sure, is a mystery, huh?" right afterwards always cracks me up, too. So deadpan.

Freddy is supposed to be absurd, though, right? I guess the true scope of how incredibly important this random bloke from Brittain is to the show only becomes clear in future episodes, but man… it's already kinda crazy that he just gets a 10 minute scene of backstory in the last third of this season.

You really have to wonder why the Fireman has stopped talking to people. He was pretty chatty with Freddy or Cooper in the original show, but Andy just gets a picture show, and the new Cooper gets the super cryptic "Two birds with one stone" etc.

Of course, it's also possible that Freddy liberally interpreted what he was shown in his vision for the sake of the story he was telling. When Gordon was drawn into that potal, he also wasn't particularly coherent, after all.

And I don't know when this conversation takes place. In Part 7 someone runs into the diner asking about Billy. Did this happen before or after? And who is Billy anyway?

So... Supposedly where Lynch and Monica are looking back (and see Lynch/Cole from FWWM) in the real life location just down from that cafe, there was an art gallery that was doing apparently a retrospective of some of Lynch's art from when he was young.

So, theoretically, the answer to the question that Gordon Cole is asking - "who is the dreamer?" One could arguably say that Lynch as a young man (say, when he came up with all of this for the first time) is the literal answer, maybe? And Faceless Cooper definitely must be us, the viewer - after all we are watching the dream so we MUST be present.

It's the right scene. It's after he says: We had a coffee.

And no one mentioned the sound design of this scene? Amazing. What is that sound?

The whole quote is (https://25yearslatersite.com/2017/08/15/eternal-stories-from-the-upanishads-in-the-return/):

quote:

“Look Balaki,” the king said. “Do you see that spider?”
“Yes,” said Balaki, “I see the spider moving along its web.”
“We are like the spider,” said the king. “We weave our life, and then move along in it. We are like the dreamer who dreams and then lives in the dream.
“This is true for the entire universe. That is why it is said, ‘Having created the creation, the Creator entered into it’.
“This is true for us. We create our world, and then enter into that world. We live in the world that we have created. When our hearts are pure, then we create the beautiful, enlightened life we have wished for.”

First of all.... Norma and Big Ed! :neckbeard:

I never really noticed before, but Jeffries never actually directly answers Mr. C. He always deflects with questions of his own or with statements that don't actually respond to the questions he is being asked. Mr. C by contrast is direct and to the point, and keeps trying to nail him down with a yes/no answer he never gets, and he leaves unsatisfied despite getting the number for "Judy". Also I love that Mr. C himself doesn't actually know who or what Judy is, and that clearly troubles him. Also it's interesting that Jeffries in Fire Walk With Me points directly at the real Cooper and questions who he really is, but now in his evolved state he is (supposedly) easier to fool.

Something fun I was thinking about last week and that cropped up again on this episode is just how firmly entrenched Bobby's status as a deputy is. Last week when he sat down to eat with Big Ed it was difficult to recall this is the same guy who punched Ed in their first televised encounter at the Roadhouse. This week, he's there with Hawk leading in James and his buddy to put into the holding cells, but back in season 1 he and Mike were in those same cells barking and threatening James as a fellow prisoner.

Rageaholic posted:

It kind of bugs me but I keep thinking of scenes like this and the one from the previous episode with the girl questioning her friend about Billy as representing facets of Audrey's personality, all coming to a head with her finally arriving at the Roadhouse and being told it is time to do her dance. I'm basing that on a theory I've heard bandied about re: Audrey's fate after season 2 and it bugs me because it's not a theory I particularly like, but it's obviously colored my impression of a lot of Roadhouse stuff. Better to think of it more in terms of Harry's explanation to Coop that there's a dark underbelly to Twin Peaks that comes with the seemingly idyllic place, and scenes like this or Steven's apparent suicide earlier this episode seem representative of that.

Cooper doesn't even directly see Jeffries, just a projection (?). Unlike in a later scene. Looking at it, the room whre Jeffries is in is behind a radiator. Which reminds me of Eraserhead.
