Ultimately most people want the tifa/scarlet slap fight to be rendered with the detail, length, and seriousness of the final boss of metal gear solid 4. As long as that's achieved the project will have been a success overall

I'm sure this has been talked about a thousand times but having just finished the game, what was up with Charlie sheen, I mean, Biggs being alive? Does this mean Wedge and Jessie will be too? I can't imagine Biggs would've been Cloud's first choice in the three to save.

Sry this is a dumb question that’s probably clearly answered in the game, but I missed it and I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention it in here or any YouTube videos like that Easy Allies spoiler mode, but why does Aerith have to go with the Turks to Shinra willingly? And why does she if that’s the case? I mean I can imagine what would happen if she said no (mlb guys coming to pick all the flowers every night, etc) but I’m assuming the reason she has to go willingly for some weird Promised Land related reason or something like that..

I'm new to this thread so hopefully this isn't a huge "duh" thing but the ending was pretty much suggesting that Zack is alive in some timeline and therefore the deaths of any characters aren't set like in the original.

I hope Jessie is alive just so the three of them can hang out again :(

they can't like torture the Promised Land out of her. if she doesn't cooperate, then they get nothing as far as they know (her mom died from their experiments and her subsequent escape attempt), which is why Hojo is talking about making her procreate so they can continue to experiment in case she won't/can't lead them there.

Yeah I got that part (and had seen that spoiler) but I thought the implication was that Cloud used his seven seconds to save Zack.

I just finished the game today so I'm also new to the thread, so sorry if this is retreading, but while we're asking obvious questions:

Did I miss some reason to believe zack is alive in some other alternate timeline or something vs just sort of now being alive in the remake timeline all along in the first place? That seemed like the occam's razor explanation to me but maybe I don't have a bad enough case of nomura brain to get it yet

Goganga is Zack's hometown, and you can talk to his parents and everything. Given that they showed Zack in the ending as if he were important, I very much doubt they'd skip Goganga. If anything they'd make it bigger.

She makes a deal so Marlene can get out safely. Also the Turks are all people she grew up dealing with. I think it's stated by tseng the deal was "we let you live a normal life in exchange eventually we want you to help us".

I wouldn't be shocked if the catalyst for the Turks attempts at the church was avalanche being active above her head in the reactor

I believe the implication is Cloud was allowed by Sephiroth to save Zack as a thanks for killing the date ghosts. Meaning Zack would be alive in part 2.

Or maybe we'll see multiple timelines going on, with crossovers and convergence at some point.

One thing is for sure. Anybody who hasn't played the original will be saying "who the gently caress is Zack and why do I give a poo poo"

Gonna say that I'm one of the more optimistic folks here about the story but if the second part actively involves time travel and/or multiple timelines as a core narrative element that optimism will fade quickly

obviously it's impossible that part 2 will contain any exposition that explains who zack is, as we've all accepted the reality that part 2 is going to be forty straight hours of the fort condor minigame presented with no dialogue or context

To be fair, that's the response to anyone who see's Zack in the original. Hell in FF7, there's not even an explanation as to who Zack is until the english release which is hidden in Shinra mansion on Disc 3.

Also, no, the implication is without the Whispers there to guarantee things happened the way they did, Zack survived, not that he was always going to survive, or that he was always going to die, but without the Whispers there to ENSURE it, nothing is fixed.

That seems very much the implication with the story in FF7, it's not that the timeline is being messed with (outside of obvious things like Sephiroth's mental hallucination delaying Cloud and making it so Cloud could miss meeting Aerith) it's that nothing is predetermined/predestined, It's like rolling a 6 sided die. You won't always roll the same number. The Whispers exist to make sure that even if you roll a 3, the result will be as if you rolled a 4.

While I'd love that, it is kind of silly to being up a character with no context when there won't be any explanation of who they are for 3 years. This isn't a cold open to a prestige TV show episode.

So to paraphrase, you're saying that seeing zack survive is more symbolic than it is having any effect on the actual remake timeline? Ok, that's an interesting take.

I noticed the wikipedia plot summary of the game also stated it as zack living 'in some timeline' so I was wondering if this was stated in the ultimaniax book or whatever.

I was wrong, the true ending conflict isn't between idealism and materialism.

It is about why Stamp being a beagle was so critical that Whispers needed to protect it

Because Cloud wouldn’t be so messed up if Zack didn’t die in his timeline. Also the quick shot of Stamp during the Zack flashback has Stamp as a different breed, hinting that it’s not the same world. And finally it’s been confirmed in a dev interview. One thing that’s not clear is if Biggs surviving is in the “prime” universe or not.

It would be a hell of a thing to show him surviving (hell, focus on it) at the end of the game and then have him not actually be alive in the next.

If you assume this is a character we don't know, him surviving isn't symbolic because we don't know who he is or that he's supposed to die.

I still don't actually understand the mechanics of the Rufus fight. His dog has a weird tether that randomly seemed to break (a distance thing?) and my strategy was to just kill the dog first and then wear Rufus down until I could limit break him to death. I saw someone mention hitting him during his reload animation but I have no idea how that's even possible because if you don't block his shots you get knocked down but if you do block them you don't recover fast enough to actually hit him during the reload animation, and they can't be dodged as far as I could tell.

once you break darkstar's tether (counterstrike does the job nicely) and get rufus to engage you solo, focused thrust will automatically knock him off his feet and allow you to start staggering him, whereas hitting him with braver mid-reload will end the fight instantly

never managed the latter, took me waaaay too long to figure out the thing with focused thrust
