Seriously... I'm going to end up having to use my last voucher in August on Animal Crossing and then a month later they'll announce The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2: The Wind Waker Reawakens starring Samus Aran

It's a neat achievement but without re-doing the textures & models it honestly doesn't look much better than I remember it (memory always being better than reality).

I wonder how far Nintendo's rumoured re-release will go, will it just be wrapped in an N64 emulator or will they go full 'Link's Awakening' on it?

American McGay posted:

Yep. It was a quick way to get Link's Awakening for 40 euro at release with the savings this provided plus the double coin award thing. Or something like that, I forget the math. I figured something would show up and felt at the time I would cash it in, worst comes to worst, for Mario Maker, Animal Crossing, or Fire Emblem.

And I'm still feeling that, though the first I've borrowed from a friend and it's great, so I'm still ok buying it, but I don't make things really and it's not as easy as I would like to find cool and fun levels (it's very possible, just not instantaneous which is a minor quibble).

Animal Crossing I know I would love for a few weeks/months, but design and island customization is totally not my bag. I'm trying to prepare myself psychologically for it and just convince myself that just relaxing and checking in for fish and bugs and maybe time hopping would be fine. But if I've got to do that... well it's probably not a good sign.

Fire Emblem... I hated Awakenings and the dating poo poo isn't my thing, but I do love 6-10 and apparently the writing is good again.

Dark Horse Candidates would be: Luigi's Mansion (Never played any of them though I could via my 3DS and would if I got 3 because I'm broken that way); Dragonquest XI, which I'm sure I'll love but I'm not in the place for that sort of game and won't be for some time; NSMBU Deluxe, feels like a letdown but I do love 2D Mario; Let's Go Pokémon (but come on that'd be a real waste of money).

I'll be back with this conversation come August unless Nintendo throws us a freaking bone. Mario All-Stars 2 would be a get as would any Zelda or Metroid. But those are all wholly conjecture. If Deadly Premonitions 2 was a voucher game then yeah that, but I feel we would've known by now if it were. I have the first but I haven't played but the LP of it convinced me it's worth it sight-unseen. Which is also probably pretty dumb.

I know you can supposedly skip most of that stuff but I was really put off by mission 4 or so. I ended up just skipping the game altogher, I should get around to selling it soon.

It's just so much though! Earlier titles had a few textboxes, and maybe a prep screen between missions.

Now it's like dozens upon dozens of text boxes and choices just to get to the end of a week and participate in another quick skirmish. I get that this gives more space for character development but ya I'm not there for that. Maybe it gets better after the first few missions? I gave up quick.

I just wanna level up my idiot knights with green hair and go onto the next round of rpg chess without so much filler. But that's the thing, it's not really filler is it? It's a core element of that game, it's part of the design.

More power to those of you it jived with, I just don't have the patience for it. And what's with the three playthrus, each 80 hours long but the first 40 hours is repeat content? If you wanna see the rest of the content, you just have to accept giving up 80 waking hours of your life to repeat stuff? That's asinine...reminds me of the cumbersome UI choices in AC that stand out harshly as being big time wasters like the crafting menu

My gaming time is limited, Nintendo, you fuckers!!

Repeat playthroughs take nowhere near the same amount of time since you skip all the running around the monastery/lost items, etc.

Having to play through the beginning each time is still pretty annoying though

Ah good point, yeah it still sounds like a bit of a drag. Especially because I hear each storyline is unique and worth checking out, and they even added a fourth one.

You guys should have seen me when, on hour 80, I found out I would be locked out of the new 20 hours of content in persona 5 royal. I'd have to replay a god drat piece of poo poo 100 hour turn based rpg just to access the bonus content that is the highlight of the stupid full priced same generation cashgrab re-release.

Basically the whole point for getting the re-release if you already played it because, despite the previews orgasming over how wild the changes were (totally redone palace lmao ok guys), it was generally 99 percent the exact same game (still extremely fun and a little prettier)

After cursing at some persona fanboys online, I reloaded a file from 15 hours prior just to make sure I hit all the checks to get to the third semester for my idiot delinquent students.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more meltdowns over that one in the PS4/persona threads tbh

The DLC campaign for 3H is separate from the main game and has no repeat content (and it's not that long) so it's worth checking out even if you can't be bothered with playing the other paths.

It's also pretty difficult which was a nice change of pace from the main game

Smirking_Serpent
Aug 27, 2009

in my experience, my first playthrough was the longest, but the other 3.5 were still around 80 hours each.

It's true you can skip the monastery stuff, but it's still useful for motivating your students for lessons, and I have to admit I do always get sucked into the dialogue. It's the same thing with the supports, even if I think I've seen them before I usually end up watching them again.

Frankly, I think the characters/dialogue are the biggest reason to play the game. I enjoyed the gameplay, but if you're not into reading there have to be better options for strategy games on the Switch.

I love the game. It's my most played game on Switch by hundreds of hours, and I do believe the reason I love it so much is because they did a great job investing me in the characters. But the ratio of talking to fighting is completely skewed, and i think it should be drastically reworked for the next game. They could still have good supports with no exploration, and ideally a smaller cast.

Ok.

Fire Emblem gameplay for me was secondary at best to the character interactions of each one, so them emphasizing it more and tightening up the world building and characterization was exactly why I consider 3 Houses the best. That and the fact the gameplay here is extremely customizable makes repeat playthroughs way better.

Is this satire? "You should have known to fully clear x sidequest by this time limit in order to access the only meaningful new content in the game, or else you have to replay the whole 100 hour thing again!"

You only need to max out one confidant btw but my point stands. Going blind in persona games is fun and rewarding, and I didn't expect them to literally just say na gently caress you for not maxing out this one guy.

Not maxing out other chars doesn't block you from 20 percent of the rest of the game, does it? And the vast majority of people do not max out confidants on playthru 1 so you're just flat out lying

The best way to do secret endings is like Castlevania: if you get the bad ending you are always allowed to retread and hit the often obscure qualifiers to open up the remaining last few acts. If a 4 hour sidescroller can respect my time, I would have hoped a 100+ hour jrpg would too!

Maybe it does let you roll back, idk. As soon as I saw the requirements online I instantly became angry reloaded my files as needed to max out that idiot asap, losing 10-15 hours of progress.

Sucked but it beat replaying the whole thing again. That's what I get for thinking the game would just let me play the new content that I paid $60 for just like that

The bar was set high with the first one which I spent 18 months on and would've been playing longer had it not been reclaimed by its owner.

New Leaf lasted 3 months? Maybe. Also when it's 3 months but at 15 minutes or so a day it's less impressive. At 20 minutes a day for 3 months you've gone some 30 hours, which is respectable enough I suppose. But for a lifestyle game like that it feels a bit disappointing I guess?

Check out Demon x Machina. It’s an exclusive, I think, and it’s mechas.

If you like RPGs Xenoblade Chronicles 1+2 plays like in-depth MMOs and take place on top of and against Mecha. Though you may not like the graphics there. It’s particularly anime. Also exclusive.

Mario Tennis, which is a great arcade tennis game has the same mode as wii sports tennis. I don’t know how active online is though. Also Mario May not suit your tastes.

1, 2, Switch is a collection of mini games and party games in the vein of Wii Sports. The upcoming Clubhouse Games also has that vibe. Both are exclusives but the presentation may not be what you’re looking for though if you’re ok with Wii Sports they could work.

Pretty sure Go Vacation is a Wii sports thing and exclusive I think? It is cartoony looking though.

It’s on Steam but I don’t know if it’s necessarily cheaper there but Baba Is you will break your brain and is great portable.

Picross, which are exclusive, are also terrific logic and puzzle games and you have a whole bunch.

ty for your suggestions i will check out mario tennis
