Wondering how Australia's covid tracking app is going? Turns out if you use your phone for anything else other than running the app it stops working.

could be, the fact that it was still going looked like a “this is how flat and non-foamy it is straight out of the pipe” situation (and the second video, the foam stain was only on the plane right where it was ejecting, not all over the place) but i’m not an airport fire fighter

has anybody posted about how the IHME model, the one that's ridiculously insanely optimistic and the one people were getting the "60k by august" figure from, just quietly more than doubled their death predictions by august 4th? lmao it's at like 135k right now and I still think that's considered some realass optimism

Also note that their previous insanely optimistic models projected that the deaths would drop to zero around the end of June but their current slightly-less-insanely optimistic model only goes as far as the start of August where they guess there'll still be between 78 to 387 deaths per day.
https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

Just for shits and giggles I overlaid the current worldometers bar graph over the latest IHME model, and yesterday's 2,350 deaths already exceeds the IHME's "best guess" projection line:

Also note that the IHME's graph has a peak of 2,343 even though there's already been several 2.5k+ days according worldometers, so the two don't fit at all. I don't know where the IHME have been getting their numbers from.

so, that's intentional. we've been in a globalized neoliberal hell for 100+ years and this is the exact and predictable play-by-play exhibit that you'd expect. the muddy murky 'well who knows!!" is a direct result of our lovely system and failedstate (and tbf it's not just america, just we're dumb n bad enough to let it get bad enough to get lots of data but spend zero and resources money on it).

Tons of other countries are also researching this virus. There's just tons of uncertainty and we're slowly drilling into what it does and how it does it over time. That's the scientific method, not a neoliberal conspiracy.

they added smoothing and the “lmao” result is deaths exceeding the upper bounds, not the best guess line

their model is still optimistic but it’s not nearly as laughable as it was before
