Once I started going to abc and seeing Born Against, Rorschach, and playing shows w Dropdead and poo poo like that I couldn’t look back to meathead mosh. you def have cred over me. i started going to shows in queens (castle heights, redzone) in the late 90s that was essentially the epicenter of dudes in grey sweatpants, yankees hats, gold chains, and tons of spinning roundhouse kicks. of all my years going to shows in new york, i've not once been to abc no rio. makes sense now

If anyone has videos, articles or interviews about how any random metal albums were recorded I’d love to check some out. I’m very much in the mood for that kind of thing right now. I need studio inspiration. The more chaotic and stupid the better :getin: but I guess the good legit side would be nice too.

Most of it has aged incredibly poorly! I still love Reagan Youth, Urban Waste, and later on Life’s Blood, Born Against, and Citizen’s Arrest had some great moments but I’m super biased there.

Weirdly enough my earliest nyhc 7”s are some of the most valuable records I own. Early Revelation like the Together 7” is crazy expensive. I just wish kids getting into nyhc would have better taste than that but somehow the youth crew poo poo has staying power.

Now there’s Blackthorn 51 in Elmhurst. If Saint Vitus feels too hipstery then this is the place to check out. It looks like it used to be a strip club and you enter right next to the stage. I saw Blood Incantation there, they also have hardcore and local hip hop. Bands like Sick of it All or Agnostic front play there, and it’s smaller than most places around where they’d normally play.

Here are a couple of recent/upcoming streams I've come across:

Black Dahlia Murder are premiering a show from last year in Boston on the Metal Blade Records youtube in a little under 2 hours:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlbalGdXtuw

Century Media have announced an online festival featuring Insomnium, Voivod, Borknagar, and Omnium Gatherum among others that will premiere next Thursday:

The 3rd and final quarantine concert by Devin Townsend was last weekend, here's the VOD, this one was for a hospital in Long Island:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWFcOhCnkA4

About 2 weeks ago Mayhem premiered their Brutal Assault 2017 performance where they played De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukARfq1sK6s

Lastly, Metallica have been putting up an old live performance at 8PM EST every Monday for the past 7 weeks, most have been more recent shows but they did put up this one from Muskegon, Michigan in '91:

Defeated Sanity - Psalms of the Moribund
Disgorge - Consume the Forsaken
Devourment - Obscene Majesty

This is my Fieri Triple D beginning recommendations for consideration.

Post 2000s dm and it's subgenres I consider all time classics:
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
Trenchrot - Necronomic Warfare
Wintersun s/t (yup)
seconding Devourment - Obscene Majesty

Just shy of all time classics/potentially could be:
Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies of Artificial Origin
Fetid - Steeping Corporeal Mess
Necrot - Blood Offerings

I definitely do not worship at the altar of Blood Incantation

There's already a lot of really good stuff I super second being added there. I also think new Ulcerate is a stronger contender for belonging, but it's also still really recent. Throwing in:

Disentomb - Misery as another one.
Undergang - Indhentet af døden
Wormed - Planisphaerium

Smirr
Jun 28, 2012

Undergang - Indhentet af døden
Funebrarum - Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods
Disma - Towards the Megalith (yes, I know...)
Galvanizer - Sanguine Vigil
Pissgrave - Suicide Euphoria
Tomb Mold - Primordial Malignity
Vastum - Hole Below
Ascended Dead - Abhorrent Manifestation
Mortiferum - Disgorged from Psychotic Depths
Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing

I went with bands that have a) released a proper album, b) debut post 2000, and went with the debut each time except Vastum (since Vastum's debut is kinda meh). Notable demos/EPs of recent years to me include Sedimentum, Charnel Altar, Malignant Altar, Terror Chamber, Warp Chamber (whoops, this one is actually a full album, but I needed to get the Altar/Chamber two-fer in there).

Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels
