The final room in the final mission is difficult enough without adding those 3 to the roster. I've never played a campaign where they weren't all 3 dead by the time I finished, though.

It is funny how you are starting to hate Grenadiers and warm up to Sharpshooters, because that is literally how the power curve works in XCOM2. At the beginning Grenadiers are the best as cover removal and guaranteed damage is incredible, while Sharpshooters are worse than rookies. However, by the mid game the lack of any accuracy on levels makes Grenadiers kind of annoying to use(which is why I put my stocks on them to at the very least use them as finishers) and now that Sharpshooters are accurate as heck and have access to various types of rounds for extra damage, they are now quite useful.

Because of the alpha strike nature of XCOM2, Rangers, whose whole thing is alpha striking, are the best since no one else does that sort of job as well as they do.

This is true, which is why Chimera Squad is interesting as the interleaved turns reduce the alpha strike nature a bit. Though I still think I enjoy XCOM2's battle system more as a whole, it is a super fun take on XCOM.

I did a run of that mission on Legendary with all three chosen still around (This was the game with that "hates-Templar-but-immune-to-Rend" Hunter). It was... unpleasant. Especially the final room, which is already an endurance run.

Welp, RIP Carlos. Two missions, four kills, one extended stay in medbay, one indefinite stay six feet under. Might have lived had you not stood too close to a Blazing Pinion, or procced battle frenzy. Or been repeatedly shot, poisoned, or slashed. Really, we should have seen this coming when someone nicknamed you "Dead."

RIP Kozma. You were definitely under-leveled for this mission.

RIP Sincx. While the skulljack is a loss, we will miss your hat most of all.

Hope Bob lives up to the toll.

That splash damage with Rend seems more or a liability than an asset given how much fiddling you seem to do with not hitting people or certain objects and then the AOE blasting open things that reveal more pods.

So you remember that dreadful sequence at the end of Saving Private Ryan where old Ryan is questioning his entire life and its value as he recalls the deaths of the men sent to bring him home?

Really got that vibe right now. I mean, that did not go well. Not a total disaster, to be fair, but the permanent loss of the frost bomb is probably worse than the loss of three soldiers and the addition of a shop-soiled Ranger is not much compensation. Then there'll be another rescue mission. I'm sorry it turned out this way.

As someone who bought and has gotten fairly into XCOM 2 and WotC from this LP alone, yea, considering how Megane's Rend splash has hit another enemy once? twice maybe? for all the times it's caused problems, that's convinced me to avoid it at all costs. :v:

I personally like it, because it can't miss, and works really well when you hit a pod in the flank or on enemies like chrysallids and lost that like to bunch up. If you roll a Templar with Reaper, it's godlike.

Deadford was lost, and you stepped up to become the new Deadford, and then during the last phase of your montage, we got Deadford back.

Meanwhile I'm loafing around med bay discussing my feelings and why they make me panic sometimes, just generally not being a worthwhile ranger.

Edit: no, apparently just regular loafing around med bay. Lightly wounded, 3 days, as of the covert op listing.

I thought Vaughn was New Deadford, but FairGame hasn't actually bought Serial on him yet (presumably for fear of him dying early). Once he gets that he will be Deadford+.

Prove yourself, Deadford! You too Munin!

Part of me wonders if some of those free promotions from the Resistance Ring might have been better spent on bringing more of those squaddies cluttering up the bottom of your roster up to snuff instead of making your already good units better.

Just drag an enemy halfway across the map with dual Justices.

If you picked up the Exchange skill on a Templar, you could also take advantage of Wrath or Justice to put the Skirmisher next to an enemy and then Exchange to Rend or Autopistol. Depending on which action that was for the Skirmisher, they can potentially Grapple into a different position or do some other thing if they didn't already.

Yeah, when you play this game, you have to get used to telling Spokesman to go suck Muton dick sometimes. Some months are about launching non-stop assaults against the aliens, and some months are about bunkering down, consolidating our gains and bolstering our forces for the next assault. You know jackshit about tactics, Smokesy, that's why you had to bust my rear end out of psychic prison to lead this show.

(EDIT: While it's true you probably don't want two specialists except for very specific missions, Psi Soldiers also use ARs, so it isn't necessarily a bad call to have two modded rifles if you aren't going to build the Bolt Caster.)

Yeah unlike long war it's looking like he's gonna need extra troops just to dilute the willpower drain, because this fatigue/trauma/neurosis spiral is starting to look like Rimworld.

I am like a week away from churning out a SGT every 10 days, and I can also build another SPARK if I’m so inclined. It’s fine. Just gotta not get anyone else killed, and my being in a weird spot with research makes that a little dicey.

I’m like 95 percent confident we are winning this campaign, though.

Yeah, and from experience having "a rough month" turn into "three rough months in a row" doesn't always turn the campaign into a still-winnable-but-torturously-unfun meatgrinder slog, but it isn't necessarily bad to insure against it.

Yeah, Mind Shield was definitely the MVP of that mission. I am a little worried you're going to get slowed down enough by those losses to have to make some tough decisions about slowing down Avatar progress vs. Chosen research.

Well that was a mission. I've grown some numb to hearing 'this is going to be a wipe' that it was hard to believe how fast that went downhill expecting the usual miraculous save. Also another example of how terribly designed Specters are.

I guess we'll see how bad Deadford's survivor's guilt is going to be after that one.

It's also telling that it wasn't even really worth engaging the archons. High dodge and tons of HP make them just irritating and unsatisfying to fight.

Gone to Ground is a brutal dark event, especially since they make you scan for the black market again at the end. It's survivable, though. I once had to choose between that and High Alert (XCOM does not start with concealment) and welp.

It's a unique item that was added with the Alien Rulers DLC. You're only ever allowed to build one throughout the entire campaign. And most unique equipment like that is lost for good if the soldier carrying it dies and you don't recover their body before the end of the mission.

Maybe we should start building Mimic Beacons now. Enemies are starting to do up to 9 damage a hit so they're unlikely to stave off even a single pod before breaking, but if the activations are in your favor, it can stall for a turn
