Who else loves third rock from the sun? Of all the 90s sitcoms it is probably my favorite.

it's piss from my balls that tried to lump together the most tired tropes of sitcoms (Family drama, workplace drama, sexual drama, being friends drama, secretly an alien living amongst humans drama) at one time and poo poo them out into tired replays of old jokes done to a bad laugh track, dumbed down for idiots and censored for prime time broadcast tv.

You loved it. Shocking.

My favorite episode was where they all had to abstain from masturbating, and, if you abstained long enough, you won the money. All of it.

Joseph Gordon Levitt and French Stewart both went to become big Hollywood stars - well JGL did, French Stewart did Home Alone 4 and Inspector Gadget 2.

There's an episode where the dude who's always squinting goes to the doctor because his GF wanted him to be taller or something? Anyway he says to the doctor "I would like to be... longer" and the doctor says like "well... here's a tip, the length increases with the level of excitedness".

The doctor thought he was talking about his dingdong you see.

Third Rock from the Sun was okay, but I felt like the jokes were very repetitive and based too often on oh so wacky misunderstandings. Sometimes there were very funny skits, but I feel like it had the fairly common 90s network TV problem where the jokes were lazy, dumbed down tedium for the laugh track because that's what the writers were convinced the audience wanted because they never actually interacted with human beings outside their writer's room. I strongly prefer Frasier.

You complain everywhere u go. The tropes were newer when the show was created.

My wife and I have been slowly watching through all of the episodes of this show, it's available on Amazon Prime. It's really funny, and has a lot of good social commentary that you wouldn't have thought about being brought up in the 90s. I also like how the show slowly reveals the lore of the characters and how their culture and alien bodies work.

I didn't like the plot with Dick and Mary getting engaged, and Dicks family tries to ruin it by forcing him into a marriage and he is forced to lie about cheating on her. That one felt really unfunny and cruel to me.

My brain remembers an episode of 3rd Rock involving a Coneheads crossover that had Dan Aykroyd on the show with Jane Curtin. I remember bits of the plot and everything.

Apparently this episode never existed though and I'm losing my mind. I wonder if the whole thing was like, part of an NBC commercial bumper that I'm misremembering.

I never knew Jane Curtin was in that movie, and i've been wanting to watch it again because of my re-watch of 3rd Rock.

On the other hand, kind of really miss the low stakes goofy laugh track comedies of the 90s, even if I was never into the vast majority of them, because today's equivalent is interchangeable tragedy porn dramas like This Is Us or A Million Little Things, which are the most boring and dull thing.

3rd rock from the sun was carried by John Lithgow's acting alone.

Newsradio was extremely ensemble where the writing and everyones performances was super on-point and amazing but it still crumbled once Hartman died.

Also Beth was super hot.

Not quite that, but there was an episode where Dick and Mary go to either a sci-fi convention or Halloween party, I can't remember, but a couple of people dressed up as Coneheads walk by and Mary looks absolutely delighted.
