People made themselves dumb with lead long before gas. It used to be a common sweetener. Yes as in food. Wine especially and apparently the mix of alcohol, heat (iirc they cooked it) and lead is extra double plus bad for you. Oh and lead oxide makeup.

Leaded gas alone is a poor fit with the timeline, but it's easy to forget just how many other chemicals were sloshing around in our drinking water and floating in the air during that whole time. Like, things aren't great now, but holy poo poo were they bad back then and I don't think we even really understand just how bad it was.

Wasps don't pollinate but what they do infact do is hoover up a frankly inordinate number of defenceless grubs, caterpillars and beetle larvae that RIGHT NOW are eating your plants and crops. Wasps may be dicks but they're the garbage men of the bug world. They take out the trash (pests).
