IgG being much smaller can perfuse to much more tissue (and get through the placenta). Seems like the process is basically that a naive B cell grows and leaves marrow, then in response to an antigen starts making IgM before class switching to be a memory B cell that produces tailored IgG. Since the switched B cells don't produce any more IgM, that kind of antibody dies out until prompted by the antigen appearing again. Meanwhile the memory B cells keep producing IgG longer.

I definitely think the worst is yet to come in rural Minnesota, but if I were in NYC, I'm not sure I'd feel the same.
