The positive part about lids is that you will literally never see them outside of terror missions / one or two plot missions.

Unless you get the dark event, in which case lol

Do the 'lids not go for civilian targets at all in XCOM 2? And do they still create zombies and eventually new chryssalids as in the previous XCOM?

They absolutely do both of those things, and it is a complete nightmare.

Yeah, that was weird. When I played vanilla XCOM 2 and WotC on PC, burrowed 'lids wouldn't pop out like that unless you were within a single move action's worth of distance. Those things seemed like they were charging you from nearly all the way across the map. That definitely feels like unintended behavior.

Re-watched the vid again. Very glorious. Two things.

1) Watching Jade play this on normal/classic is so different from Fairgame's legendary difficulty. Holy poo poo a walk in the park.
2) Did they nerf that ruler? Because holy poo poo Fairgame if you encounter that ruler I shudder to think what they would be in Legendary.

I did that on a PC and it works.

And yeah, that Chrissalid behavior did look wonky and I didn't see them do that in my (non-WotC) game. Burrow and ambush in an annoying way, yes. Charge two thirds of the way across the map and try and chunk someone, no.

Maybe having a reaper with Target Definition flag them as 'permanently visible' breaks the logic for checking LOS to determine when to make their ambush attack?

I don't believe they did, and I assume fairgames strategy of dealing with him is to avoid him completely or use 'the forbidden technique'

Seeing as he took a moment in this recent video and explicitly mentioned the necessary items and foreshadowed the final component of the combo ...I'd say we're likely to see animation sequences glitching out and absurd ragdoll comedy, because xcom physics.

If that's the LP I'm thinking of, he did abuse the absolute gently caress out of some of the weapons and tactics that were changed in WotC to not be so absurdly exploitable in order to make some things that should have been real trouble into cakewalks.

What is the Forbidden Technique? ice bombs/mimic beacons, a stealthed spotter + like 3 sharpshooters raining bullets from way downtown, or something else? Because I feel like given how many sharpshooters we have, we deserve to use the second of these.

And holy cow, I am really happy that Megane's splash damage didn't take out the wall holding up the roof those civilians were hiding on when she moved up to kill that officer.

You see part of the forbidden technique in the Jade Star LP video. Key to the trick is that the Frozen status interacts weirdly with ruler reactions which can be abused in several ways to kill them.

He also goes into a bit more details about the mechanics of the fight and what exactly happened in the post below the video on LP Archive so don't look at that if you want to keep any potential future surprise unrevealed.

Donkringel posted:

He did commit a pretty egregious mistake which caused the absolutely monster ruler turn where the ruler got 6 ruler reactions or so in a row. Even that ruler is manageable if you have the burst DPS on hand and don't hit end turn on on an unfrozen ruler with half your squad not having taken their actions. The ability Jade Star calls out as the most bullshit indeed is the worst and badly thought out but the rest are kinda manageable.

Y'all are talking about different "forbidden techniques."

Rest assured that if I do go into a mission with the final alien ruler, I will do so with SugarAddict (or his next of kin) as a Colonel, wielding a rifle with 6 shots and a 15% chance to insta-kill on each shot. That is MY forbidden technique, and I'm not leaving home without it.

Eh getting demoted to placeholder-duty (for resistance ops that just need +1 warm body) is relatively safe assignment.

It's rare for a Filler Guerrilla to see combat at all and when they do they're usually being escorted by a superbadass living weapon. That or they discover they've been further demoted to zombait.
