I think with everyone's help, if I'm forgiven, I can work through this troubling time in my life and learn to survive again. I make this offering in penance, a funny picture more in line with the needs of the thread.

I remember when Challenger exploded. The girl two houses down (Kari) was the niece of Christa McAuliffe. She was also my brother’s best friend. Being in elementary school, the school made a big deal of the launch and taught about science and stuff. There was a big assembly that morning and they had all 500 students together to watch the launch in the combination cafeteria/auditorium. Kari got to sit up front to watch and got to take one other student with her (my brother). They watched the shuttle explode and it was horrifying. Kari didn’t understand it at first and then was just destroyed. I don’t remember if that was on the broadcast or if I saw it on the tv at home later, but there was a shot of her grandparents staring up at the sky in confusion and horror at the launch site. I also knew someone on the Columbia shuttle disaster if someone wants to calculate the odds of one person knowing two different shuttle disaster victims. But none of that is funny or a picture.
