No doubt in my mind that the people making this decision are fine checking one minority box but think that checking two or more is a bridge too far, which relegates Harris to the "break in case of emergency with black voters" box, and I don't think they're as panicked as they should be over minority turnout. Why should they be? South Carolina proves that biden has the monolithic black voter bloc on lock!

How are u posted:Donald Trump is 74 years old and if he were physically capable of running a Presidential Campaign at 78+ he certainly wouldn't have the brain for it. I'm confident he'll be dead before 80. Assuming he loses this year, and in 4 years he's still able to string enough words together to form a sentence, he will absolutely run again. His ego will demand it, because only loser presidents don't serve the maximum two terms. It'll be bad enough in his mind that he lost re-election, but he definitely isn't going to let himself be a one term president if he has enough faculties to try to do anything about it.

That and he's already promised a black judge on the Supreme Court so his campaign has determined they already "did enough" for black people.

Oh of loving course. He spends time in the states she didn't bother to and wins, she loses the narrative cover of Trump Chuds and Sanders voters not showing up costing her the election. To go down in history as being so badly hated that it allowed Trump a fluke one term presidency would probably give her a massive stroke.

Nonsense posted:The Brilliance of Joe Biden! He’s not the loving Vice President. Why has this dumb title-retention thing entered common usage? From a PR perspective it makes sense—what else does Biden even have, a long senatorial record that his campaign is desperate to keep under wraps?—but I don’t see why the media and everybody else has gone along with it. Dumb. Also he sounds incredibly bad but I guess nothing matters anymore. No masks, no morals, all monsters.

How are u posted:This is a really weird thing to get angry about. Title retention has been A Thing forever. It's just how things are done. There's nothing more to it. Incorrect. I’m on mobile so don’t feel like digging out the links, but the sources in this Wikipedia article note that the practice was previously that offices held by only one person at a time aren’t retained, and that alternative forms of address were preferred. And indeed, the style guides at the NYT, WaPo, the New Yorker, and other fancy institutions of snooty writing agree. This is a relatively new practice, and while it may be weird to get angry about, I think it contributes to treating politicians like aristocrats, forever marked as part of the ruling class in a country where not having nobility was a founding principle. It’s a subtle bit of messaging that imparts authority—but given how people react to the presence of a little blue checkmark, I don’t think it’s too subtle to matter. E: That said it is not cool that I’m mad about this, that much is very true, but I promise I’m already totally full of shame about this and many other things, so don’t worry. rko fucked around with this message at 23:37 on May 14, 2020 |
