Their steel was poo poo and was prone to spalling, which meant that even if the tank's armor wasn't penetrated the crew could still be killed.

I don't remember the username anymore but there was a goon that did a ton of effortposts on why the German supply effort during WWII was hilariously bad (talking about the uniforms at first but p sure the tanks came up as well) mostly because of it all being overengineered fancy poo poo instead of useful, modular gear. Someone can probably dig it up, I'm not having much luck

If the European Allies had declared on the USSR, it's unlikely that they would have had the resources or unity of will to fight the largest single land army, led by some of the best generals of their time, supported by the resurgent Soviet industrial machine being souped up by the hauling of the entire accessible German industrial base back behind the Urals where Allied strategic bombers also can't reach, all without even really concluding the World War against the Axis.

It's important not to overstate the condition of the Red Army at the end of the war. They were scraping the bottom of their readily-available manpower (instead of sending their POWs home to recover when they liberated them, the ones who weren't arrested were dumped into whatever units needed replacements) and were reliant on lend-lease trucks and rolling stock for their logistics. Plus the Western Allies had the sort of strategic bombing capability that the Nazis never did so the Soviet factories were far from invulnerable. That being said the idea of a war between the Western Allies and the Soviets in 1945 is preposterous bullshit and there's a reason even Churchill called it Operation Unthinkable when he asked his staff for contingency plans if the Soviets tried anything.
